Reasonable for a doctor of his age.

Doctor has little to do with it. He's been in Congress for the last 30 years. 76 -18 -30 -medical school. That leaves about 10 years of practice.

Gold and inflation have everything to do with it.

Ron has only been in Congress for 22 years - he's in the middle of his twelfth term, and one of those terms lasted only 10 months when he won a special election. Recall that he was practicing medicine form the mid '80s to the mid '90s.

He owned a crap load of gold when it was at $250 an ounce and has written best selling books too.

And $160,000 paychecks for 22 years doesn't hurt either

He also worked at his medical practice while in Congress- during breaks, etc.

Its clear the man is tireless, resourceful, frugal, driven - not a surprise to me that he has wealth. And I bet he's earned every cent of it.

It helps being born into the Forbes family and then marrying the beneficiary of the Heinz corporation.

His personal wealth is closer to just $2 million.

3 to 5 million isn't a whole lot nowadays.

I hear people say stuff like that.. But I doubt most of us have even close to that. I know I don't, not yet anyways.

Kerry made his money the old-fashioned way -- he married into it.

Who said anything about it being important?

Seems to me with the income that he has brought in from congress, books, his medical practice, as well as being waaaaaaaaay ahead of the curve in regards to gold that he would have a little more than that. Didn't Ron win a charity award (or something along those lines) not to long ago? Might have been where some of his net worth has gone....

Hey, you can't choose your parents, but you can choose your wife.

And in John Kerry's case, he chose well in both cases.

Surprised his worth isn't higher than that. I'd imagine him around $10 million or above. I doubt anyone really knows exactly how much gold he has.

I don't know how credible that is and either way that's a huge range.

Regardless - whatever he has he earned it.

I'm sure Ron is worth 10-20 million. He's been investing his doctor salary into gold when it was $35 per oz.

He probably didn't become a millionaire through medicine alone, though that was certainly a large paycheck. He's amassed wealth through medicine, investments and the lucrative, six figure Congressional salary (I've always said if there's one man in Washington who I see no problem in receiving so much money every year, it's Ron Paul, because he actually went to Washington and took his oath / job seriously. I can't even imagine what shape we would be in today had Paul never gone to Washington).
All I know is he is a multi-millionaire. I'm not sure if Carol's wealth is also included in the numbers we know of for Paul, but she has amassed wealth as well. In 1993 alone, the corporation that published the Political Report newsletter (yes, the infamous newsletter) had an annual income of about $1 million. The corporation, Ron Paul & Associates, had 10 or 11 employees (including both Ron and Carol Paul).

He's made a lot of money from many different avenues, none of which do I personally find objectionable.
