From the Wikipedia article on the Lincoln vs Douglas debates (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln-Douglas_debates_of_1858):

The format for each debate was: one candidate spoke for 60 minutes, then the other candidate spoke for 90 minutes, and then the first candidate was allowed a 30-minute "rejoinder." The candidates alternated speaking first. As the incumbent, Douglas spoke first in four of the debates.

If conducted between each of the top 5 candidates, it would require a total of 30 debates total -- 15 allowing one of the pair to open the debate and 15 allowing the other of the pair to open the debate.

Are there any sponsors that could keep their hands out of the cookie jar that allows the likes of Fox News to determine the questions hence the range of issues?

*This is not to be confused with the so-called "Lincoln Douglas Debates (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln%E2%80%93Douglas_debate)" of high school debating club competition which are narrowed by the sponsors to focus on a specific "proposition" which is to be argued for or against by the contestants. This hijacking of the term "Lincoln Douglas Debate Format" is damaging in the power it gives sponsors to limit the scope of a debate to the range favorable to the sponsors (such as Fox News).

I hope Paul and Obama have some sort of format where they can just talk about whatever they want, ask each other questions, and actually DEBATE instead of just field questions. This would definitely be the best debate since Lincoln-Douglas. Obama/McCain was such a joke of a "debate".
