They certainly do, depends on the subreddit.
If this made it to the reddit frontpage, it could be good for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Timing is key, and I think I timed it perfectly.

Now everyone needs to get this upvoted, talk to your friends who are on reddit, get them to vote it up. Front page in 6 hours would be perfect.

Also, I think in your op, you should simply tell users here to go to the reddit.com/r/subreddit/new page and upvote.

I believe their algorithm detects link sharing. It's more natural the other way if we just timely remind people to check the /new category.

Its some sort of algorithm that calculates the acceleration of the story based on points and time since submitted. We are doing well, just saw it at #15 on r/politics.
