When Web-friendly presidential candidates Barack Obama or Ron Paul get thousands of hits on YouTube, it does more than just inform voters and agitate rivals.
It taxes the gear running the Internet and other networks around the world.
Video is a voracious consumer of network capacity. YouTube -- and other "Web 2.0"-oriented sites -- are driving demand for more gear to handle that growing traffic.
That's lifting sales of technology providers such as Cisco Systems (NasdaqGS:CSCO - News), Juniper Networks (NasdaqGS:JNPR - News), Netgear (NasdaqGS:NTGR - News) and Foundry Networks (NasdaqGS:FDRY - News). Sales and earnings are up -- sometimes along with profit margins.
