Bachmann spent upwards of $1 million, paid for over 6000 tickets, paid for Grammy Award winning, country musician Randy Travis to show up, and bussed in Randy Travis fans in order to secure 152 more votes than Congressman Ron Paul. Michele Bachmann’s camp handed out flyers, which stated that in order to see the entertainment, you had to vote for her first. Here is an image of the flyer that was around Ames,

While Bachmann gave out over 6000 tickets(worth $180,000 at $30 each), she received ~4800 votes, so 20% of those who she bought tickets for voted for other candidates. A country concert, a ride to that concert, and various other free stuff is a great deal for a simple vote.

Though she may have won the Ames Straw Poll, Bachmann will not be able to bus in country music fans for a free show for a vote scheme at the Iowa Caucus in 2012. As Joe Scarborough put it, “She is a joke. Her candidacy is a joke.”

Ron Paul is the real front runner!

She can't keep that up too long, her campaign is going to fizzle or go broke. Which ever comes first.

She didn't "rig" the poll. We did alot of what she did. She just did it on a much larger and grander scale.

She didn't rig it, but Randy Travis did win it.

It's a toss up. Half came to watch Randy, the other half came to watch her eat corn dogs.

I think the Ron Paul campaign subsidized tickets, but did not offer them for free.

Giving away tickets to a political event is one thing.. giving away tickets to a music concert of a very popular musician that requires people to vote for a candidate to see is a whole new ballgame.

We can give away "tickets" to the "primary election", but as the article says, "Bachmann will not be able to bus in country music fans for a free show for a vote scheme at the Iowa Caucus in 2012."

To attract voters with popular entertainers is one thing, but to require them to register and actually vote for you in order to get a "free" ticket is quite another

Ron Paul paid $20 of each ticket, and paid for just over 4000 tickets. This is normal and most usually pay 100% like Bachmann did. The funny part is that she paid for over 6000 and got 4800 votes. While Ron Paul got 100+%.

Stop complaining...if we could have gotten a country singer and had people vote before they saw him we would have done it too.

Ames Straw Poll is just about measuring your campaign, fundraising, and organizing skills.
