Could we ask for anything better than to have another major mainstream social conservative to fracture Bachmann's support in Iowa?

I mean, if Perry were in the straw poll, doesn't Paul walk into 1st place? How many Iowans are going to caucus for Mitt Romney, especially given how Romney is shunning the state for New Hampshire??? Bachmann/Perry/Santorum split up the crazy fundamentalists, and so that leaves Paul vs. Cain, no?

By the time January rolls around, the economy could likely be much sourer than it is today. Doesn't this all setup to be in our favor??

This is the likely reason Perry waited (was told to wait).

I think that's true in the short term.

But we have to disabuse ourselves of any kind of hope of Ron Paul winning the support of only a minority of the Republican party and still getting the nomination. He needs to win an absolute majority. And he needs to have it locked up before the convention. He can't just be one of the last two candidates standing after all the establishment votes get consolidated in one candidate, he has to be the very last one standing.
