View Full Version : Why I Registered Republican

I was born in 1985, and have voted Democratic in every election since I was 18 years old. I consider myself a liberal, both fiscally and socially. That is, until I heard what Congressman Paul has to say. I came into my political self in the Bush-era, so I think most of you will agree that it was pretty easy to demonize Republicans and Conservatives alike. That being said, I can now safely say that I never knew what a true Republican, or Conservative for that matter, was. Until Congressman Ron Paul.

Just yesterday I filled out and mailed out my new Voter Registration form, and wrote-in Republican, just so that I could vote for Congressman Paul in the Primary. He has my full support, and I'm planning on becoming active in his campaign.

" Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplacable spark. In the hopeless swamps of the not quite, the not yet, and the not at all, do not let the hero in your soul perish and leave only frustration for the life you deserved, but never have been able to reach. The world you desire can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours." - Ayn Rand

The Republican Party consists of many secs. Its like a collection of many small partys. to warn you they will fight us.

P.S. what was the tipping point that made you look into Ron Paul?

I really can't say it was any one thing, except that I had heard about him and seen his die-hard supporters in the '08 election. Unfortunately during that time I was swept up in Obama's promises of hope and change. When that fell short, and he turned out to be weak on almost every issue, I started looking for other candidates. Ron Paul was running again, and I've watched all the Republican debates, and he just spoke to me... not only that, but he's more consistent than anyone else!

I feel the exact same way.

I was born in 87. I considered myself a socialist until the summer of 2007. I watched all the debates, Democratic & Republican...mostly to hear all the stupidity. Then I heard Ron Paul arguing with all those robots that was the 2008 GOP field. I researched, read, and read some more. I ended up reregistering as Republican a month later to vote in the California Republican primary. And now I spend free time reading Murray Rothbard, Walter Block, Thomas Woods, etc.

I too was born in 1985. I have never voted before, but will be mailing my voter registration in as a Texas Republican Monday.

I had never seen a candidate I believed in or thought was true and honest until I heared Ron Paul speak, after the Primaries last election. I was to late to vote for him last go around but I plan to give him my full support in 2012, including joining a local meetup group in Fort Worth.

I have also gotten my Girlfriend, Mother and a couple friends to vote for Ron Paul. So far the only problem I ran into was his views on abortion, my Girlfriend agrees with everything but that, which is why she usually votes Democrat. She is afraid if the states control abortion laws Texas would outlaw abortion as it is in the Bible Belt. We have both had friends who had abortions for their own and varied reasons.

I'm suprised I have run into little resistence, as everyone I have convinced to vote for Ron Paul usually vote Democrat. All I have done is show them several debates and they all agreed with his points.

This is a lot like my story, only from the other side. I have always voted Republican and supported Bush both times with some pretty strong neocon motives built on anger after 9/11. In hindsight, it was all very much based in emotion, and not in logic. In the last election I was heavily fatigued with the wars and extremely underwhelmed with the GOP candidate choices. I started hearing the Ron Paul buzz and to be honest, I was initially a little turned off by some of the hyper supporters. Then I started paying more attention to the debates and found myself drawn to Ron Paul's positions even though some of them went totally against those I had held for so long. It was a classic case of knowing he was right and having a hard time admitting it. The seeds were planted though and I started to re-evaluate my core beliefs. It was not long before I could relate to and understand the other supporters, they were simply passionate about liberty and eager to get the message out to people just like me.

Cheers,
Jake

you can tell your girlfriend that if the federal government has a say in abortion and says its ok they can ban it as well. atleast if its state decided (which is pauls plan) you can move or travel to a state that does have it and still stay in the U.S.. if theres a national ban then theres nowhere to go. i happen to be very pro life, but a part of me has a hard time convincing myself to force people to stop doing something to there body. i think a battle of ideas is better and would save more babies lives than any ban.

I am the same as the OP: I was in favor of Obama last race, but that was an enormous mistake.. I initially believed that Ron Paul was crazy, just like the media portrayed him as. However, when I watched the debates, I had an epiphany.. I realized how much sense he made and how much I agree with him. I did some research and he is truly the most honest and consistent candidate, which you cannot say about any of the others. He seems to truly care about Americans. The last debate cemented my vote for him. The other candidates are status quo.

Yea I was like this 4 years ago, I was registered Independent though. The key for me was Foreign policy/Civil Liberties and the main reason why I refused supporting Republicans and would never consider them until their Foreign Policy changed (even though I held Conservative positions). After RP's campaign fell short I kind of fell into the Obama trap but I now realize he's no different than the Republicans I've despised. So now I'm back for good, won't get fooled again (cue The Who :)).

Same here.. I campaigned for McGovern, Clinton, Clinton, Edwards, Gore. I hate the war mongering GOP, and always have. Now the democrats have shown through Obama, they share the same war mongering platform as the GOP.

I registered republican in 2007 for Ron Paul. There is not another candidate I would consider. If it Obama against anyone else, I'm staying home.

Funny, in 2007 I had no desire to be active in politics, but I watched the GOP debate for the same reason and found myself shooting to my feet when Ron spoke. I remember the moment... it was like, "Holy shit, that guy isn't talking out of his ass who the hell is he?"

Been a die hard supporter ever since.

I was born in 1982, and I voted for Bush in 2000, and again in 2004. I had grown skeptical of Bush, but I was still in a "lesser of two evils" mentality and I didn't yet understand how much was going on behind the scenes. Ironically, it was researching a lot of liberal arguments against Bush that made me realize how similar the two parties really were and how they are "two sides of the same coin." Then I heard Ron call them both out in the debates.

Thanks Ron! Your message is spreading!

Glad to have you with us !

It has been a great learning experience for me from the moment I first started looking into Ron's message ( especially in regards to constitutional governance and monetary / economic policies. )

Two of the most important topics for any citizen are probably the two least understood and least taught properly in schools.

As you are probably already well aware, Ron is an extraordinary phenemenom in the realm of politics.

Reading some of his books and others that he and others here have referrenced, as well as partaking in this forum has been truly enriching.

There are some fantastic folks here and a few that try to stir the pot... without cooking anything worth eating !

You may, one day down the road, find yourself surprised at the things you previously believed to be important or true, and even more surprised that the thing that makes more sense is so much more simple and different than you might have thought.

Again, welcome aboard !

Hayek's The Road To Serfdom and the writings of Thomas Paine... a lot of brilliant minds that are being rediscovered in the pursuit of liberty, all the best !

I was apathetic as far as voting goes. I did believe most of the neocon lies throughout high school, and I defended Bush's wars.

Then, I learned about Ron Paul in Nov. 2007 and I haven't looked back.

Glad to have the OP on board.

Fair warning, folks on RPF argue and fight like brothers and sisters, but we don't let anything come between us. Welcome to the fray.

PS: Crackyhoss, see if you can convince some of your democratic friends to register republican and vote Ron Paul. I'm guessing Obama is going to win the democratic nomination again anyway, so at least by registering republican they can ensure that out of the rest of the republican contenders, Ron Paul is going to be the one to restore the Bill of Rights and end the wars and bailouts.
