It was on Stossel and a re-run of his post debate Thursday show. Paul was on and talking about Iran when he stated they had no Air Force and no Navy.

Now, granted - no bombers, no aircraft carriers, no battleships... clearly a military focused on defending their own country and not attacking other countries.

He also pointed out that they haven't attacked anyone in over 100 years.

Maybe he was confusing his countries...

I think he was saying that Iran doesn't have a military that is capable of attacking the US

I believe his point was that they have no armed forces capable of attacking us, as he has said numerous times in the past when speaking of these things.

With a small airforce that has no carriers or overseas bases, they cannot even bomb Israel, much less the United States.

What he means is they might as well have no air force/navy compared to the US or Israel. It's so small in comparison.

52,000 active personnel
530 aircraft

The regular armed forces have an estimated 545,000 personnel
The Islamic Republic of Iran Army, 465,000 personnel
The Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, 28,000 personnel
Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force, 52,000 airmen

Revolutionary Guards, has an estimated 120,000 personnel

The Basij is a paramilitary volunteer force controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards. Iranian sources claim a membership of 12.6 million, including women, of which perhaps 3 million are combat capable.

Globalsecurity.org quotes a 2005 study by the Center for Strategic and International Studies estimating 90,000 active-duty full-time uniformed members, 300,000 reservists, and a total of 11 million men that can be mobilized if need be.

And no way to attack the US or even Israel. The whole country could be part of the military, but without the tech, they aren't going much of anywhere.

He did not say none, he said none capable of attacking US.

Even if they did, they are not idiots, and their leadership is not a radical as portrayed, mostly because Akmamouthado is not that powerful anyway.

Ron should call it like it is in the debates and simply say that every president and congress is controlled by the military-industrial complex and that these wars are not patriotic, and that the real patriots need to stand up and say no. And that the reasons to go to war are lies and propaganda. Something like "Real Patriots don't take their marching orders from lying bureaucrats" or something. He should consult Rand for proper phrasing.

Iraq attacked Iran. Iran has not STARTED a war in the last 100 years.

Not to mention they can't refine enough oil for their domestic needs. How in the world are they going to operate an air force halfway across the world?

He clarified that this last debate saying they didn't have an airforce capable of getting HERE etc.... he meant they had none 'to speak of'.

I have my own Navy & Air Force. Now granted, I don't have any bombers, aircraft carriers or battleships... I think you get the point. It was a generalization methinks.

I guess technically the Village People also had a navy. But, really, his point is sound. You know, Ron gets heat for trying to be TOO informative in a debate format and now he is going to get heat for not being precise enough even though he is correct for the purpose of the point he is making? Come on . . .

Most of their planes are pretty old (F-14s are good for making movies, and the F-4 is a relic from the Vietnam war). Our pilots wouldn't have to fire a shot. We could just fly past their jets really fast and let the wind turbulence break apart their aircraft.

Of course, our air force is getting a bit dated itself, which is one more reason we need to pull our troops home from the world and focus on maintaining a technological edge.
