Rand Paul gives me a ton of confidence. Just having that guy on your team is a huge asset.

Rand is right:

There is plenty of speculation that Paul will ultimately win the straw poll. If that happens, Rand told the crowd, "some will try to discount it.""This isn't an online poll," he said.

"If Ron Paul wins the poll today, it's going to be a message heard around the world."

The crowd roared.

And Doug Wead has a great pitch for a Ron Paul presidency:

After he finished, Paul's senior campaign adviser Doug Wead, who previously worked as an adviser to both Presidents Bush, came up on stage. "When Ron Paul is president, Rand Paul will be there in the Oval Office whispering in his ear every day," Wead said. "You vote for Ron, you get Rand."

You know, with all the momentum we've built since 2007 and are continuing to build...even if Ron loses, we are setting Rand up nicely for a 2016 run.

There's no time to wait for 2016 to change the country.

2012 or bust.

I disagree. The world doesn't end in 2012. Obviously, pour everything you've got into 2012, but this is still politics. You've still got to be thinking one or two cycles ahead at all times. If Ron doesn't take it in 2012 (of course I hope he does), I think he really will be too old (and three years retired from office) to run for POTUS, and Rand will be in a solid position.
