WATERLOO, Iowa — Ron Paul has none of the bravado of his Republican presidential rivals. At a town hall meeting here on Wednesday afternoon, he spoke for 35 minutes and then promptly apologized.

“Hopefully, I didn’t scare you off,” Mr. Paul, a congressman from Texas, said with a soft voice and a characteristic shrug.

Not likely.

In his second consecutive run for the Republican nomination, Mr. Paul is better known, better organized and on track for what could be a top-three finish at the Ames straw poll on Saturday.

“I’m not predicting that I know we can win or anything like that,” Mr. Paul told a room of about 75 people in this town in northeastern Iowa.

In fact, rival campaigns suggest that they believe that Mr. Paul might win the straw poll, on the strength of his support among libertarians, college students and an increasing number of traditional Republicans who are now beginning to agree with Mr. Paul’s longstanding criticism of government spending and the federal debt.

Asked whether he feels a sense of vindication because of the warnings he long preached about a coming debt crisis for the country, he said he wasn’t raised to gloat. “I don’t think you should be out to toot your own horn,” he said.

His son Rand, a freshman senator from Kentucky, disagreed.

“We should do some gloating,” said Senator Paul, who is in Iowa campaigning with his father. “The slogan for the campaign should be, ‘Ron Paul was right!’”

THIS!

Rand and Tom Woods / RevPac need to do Dr. Paul's dirty work. He is too nice of a man to gloat about being right about everything. That's why RevPac needs these ads and billboards and we need Rand to make the "Ron Paul was right" campaign slogan a national phrase!

To be right about bad things makes for a sadistic heart when used for ego purposes. Ron wasn't right because he wanted to be. He was right because that's the way it was. It's nothing to hang pride on.

I'd expect nothing less from Dr. Paul, but I think others are right here. Someone is going to have to—let's not say "brag", but—'reiterate' that Dr. Paul has been saying these things for his whole political career.

It's not gloating; it's just helping people make an informed decision. Many probably don't even know he was (and continues to be) right, such as that FBN reporter the other night who accused Ron of being part of the problem.

Ron needs some big name on his campaign to remind people that Ron Paul was right. Rand is the man for the job. A perfect tag team.

My exact response while reading this was " God Bless Ron Paul "

The article was fair but pictures have more of psychological effect on readers than words. If this were an article about Romney, the NYT would have him shaking hands with excited people or showing him speaking to a large crowd. Instead, RP becomes "small" and insignificant when his body isn't in the picture and his takes up only 1/25 of the plain colored image.

Yea, exactly this. If a commercial were to be made using that clip where Ron is on Morning Joe and Joe reads off Ron's 2003 prediction on Fannie and Freddy while his co-host gasps at the sheer awesomeness of Ron, I think America would like Paul a lot better.
