dumb question: What's the difference between bid and ask prices?

Bid is the max purchase offer. E.g. "I will buy your gold for $1776/oz" vs Ask is the lowest seller's price is E.g. "I will sell you my gold for $1777".

The price moves when someone pays the bid or ask price. Hope that helps :)

The talking heads can talk all they want. They can never talk away what the price of gold indicates.

I agree.. and am I retarded for not knowing who that dude is? Shouldn't it be Bernanke?

I'm going to have to fix this, but I'm too busy at the moment unfortunately.

Its Paul Krugman, a nobel prize winning Keynesian economist who writes columns in the New York Times.
He's a big proponent of QE, fiat money, socialism, central government planning etc

Read me about him here!

It is Paul Kurgman, Princeton economist, Nobel prize in economics, Keynesian-money printer, and nearly indistinguishable from Bernanke. They even have the same beard.

edit: Matt beat me to it.
