It looks like this may be the case. He hinted on it last night, and showed a clip of the commercial, after talking about Perry, and his write-in campaign. He all but said that he was going to be pimping Perry and his write-in campaign in his ad.

I'm positive that Viacom / CBS executives are part of the bilderburg group, and Viacom / CBS owns Comedy central... yep... no conspiracy theory folks, it's reality.

If he runs ads they will be a joke. He wouldn't actually support Perry. He's an actor pretending to be a Republican.

Tarzan designed some great cards Colbert could use....

I think it's going to be more of a joke ad that mocks Perry... Or at least, I hope that's what it is. It would make sense, coming from Colbert.

Of course it's going to be a joke that mocks Perry. This is Colbert on Comedy Central. Do we really think he'd run a serious ad for Perry, or any candidate, for that matter?

Ugh. Even though it's clearly going to be a joke, this has potential to backfire. Having the liberal machine against any candidate will only drive more Republican voters to support that person.

Agh.. my suspicion was true.. and this isn't funny. it's going to be news. It's drawing attention to his write-in campaign, and whether or not the Iowa GOP are going to count "Rick Parry" votes. Not funny. Evil. It was constructed to automatically be a news story.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to make of this.

On the one hand, I appreciate good satire - and this is pretty fantastic all the way around - but on the other hand, I also appreciate the seriousness of the political struggle we are in.

I can see this type of thing gaining traction (remember when Colbert got a NASA treadmill named after him?). I know he's making fun of the system, and that's great, but the way he's doing it only serves to strengthen the establishment.

Like Esoteric says, I think it's a question of whether or not the Ames officials count the 'Parry' votes or not. My bet is that they won't, because of the Colbert commercial. Had they not done that commercial, they probably would count the misspellings, but since Colbert made that ad (and I'm guessing some college kids are going to get in and write his name as Parry), then I doubt that they'll count them. We'll see what happens.

I can tell you that Colbert definitely WANTS them not to count at Rick 'Perry' votes, since he wants to get on his show next monday and brag about how many votes Rick 'Parry' received. Because that's funny. Counting them for Rick 'Perry' is not funny.

I bet they will count the votes.

Hopefully Iowans will take the straw poll more seriously than Colbert Nation SuperPAC donors.

Yeah, seriously. I hope so too.
