View Full Version : For Liberty Showing - Pella Newspaper Ad Buy Info

The Pella Chronicle has made an exception for us. The deadline was yesterday AM... He does not have much room and is doing the layout right now. We have a 2 column by 3 inch space reserved. I am going to start creating the Ad right now.

We can get into 2 other surrounding (affiliated) papers (towns within 12 miles). One is a daily, one is a weekly. This reduces the per ad cost.

It is about $40 per ad per day. I would like to get it into the daily (Oskaloosa, an AM paper) 2 days (Thurs and Fri - Deadline for Weds is past...), and Knoxville, a weekly. In addition to the Pella Ad ( a weekly, comes out Thursday)

I have enough cash for this here, but could certainly use help in that regard as I am (as usual) on the edge...

These will be B/W ads. Total for 4 days (about 30,000 eyes) is $160

Questions:

Should I go with 2 days in the Daily? or just one?

Should I just go for the Pella Newspaper?

Next post will be the copy I am envisioning...

Please pledge here to help purchase

Onward!

Chipped in.

I'd say go for all 4 days. $160 seems pretty reasonable for that much advertising IMO.

Thanks guys, I had a noon deadline for the purchase, we now have all 4 days. I have till 3:30 to get the ad in. Copy is 90% complete, had to break off to pay for it, back at it now at an outdoor cafe enjoying a Banana/Strawberry smoothie. Will post soon for comment/tweaking

Busy busy

Thanks for posting the initial copy. Hopefully someone can help out and get things ready within an hour or so! Will there be enough people at the event afterwards to make sure people get to the straw poll? People just need to show up at the Ron Paul tent for free tickets for all family members and friends.. plus free food!

Thank you SO much for the support. I've already cleaned up the obvious typos, but am not very "orthodox" with grammer/etc. So, in case we don't see a better version, any suggestions for text changes will be much appreciated... I need to go visit the Opera House, and get ready for the 2:45 rally, will be checking via phone... Tonight I'll be printing up 700 more inserts for the Grassroots Press, as well as more posters for store windows...

For an ad so small in a newspaper, I think it needs to be as simple as possible while getting all the main points across. It also needs to appeal to people who are undecided or simply looking for something to do on a Friday night. Obviously it can be resized if need be, but let me know your thoughts.

Damn... sorry I missed this due to time constraints... Would have loved to merge the two and yours looks much better... Thanks for your effort and I will try to avoid such tight schedules as we can... went with a cleaned up version of my simple block letter one... Thanks again... I'll post the final when I get back to my room... Thanks all. The newsgirl liked it...

Should add that I also asked to be included in the community events listing, and maybe a story... while walking out door the editor told me wrote a story for us from info he got online... we'll see... It pays to advertise - haha

Actually, just got an email from the city manager of Ames threatening me with fines, although I'm not sure how they would enforce that. So please guys, no more posters on the Ames light poles. The guy said the city has removed them all.

PLEASE don't be throwing these things up on private property, either, unless you have permission. The goal is not to tick everyone off.

A Bachmann guy, presumably.....:p

Sorry, but that's silly, right before the election or straw poll. But he is within his rights to have property left alone.

Not sure who was doing the posters but I just emailed a cease and desist request to our Ames Meetup group. Hope that helps.

Damn it, I hate this... have we learned nothing in four+ years. We scream about our personal rights then violate those of others. Let's get respectful right now... go into shops and ask permission. Stop littering and angering the locals... you know, the people who vote! Winning their hearts and minds won't happen if we piss them off.

Stop being LAZY and do things the right way!

Not sure if you're still taking suggestions, but independent (not independant) is misspelled. Also, it should be grassroots not grassroot.

ronpaulhawaii
08-09-2011, 08:07 PM
Too late for that. I was wondering about root, or roots... Bummer about the independent, too. At least the disclaimer says "regular Americans" :o Was a rush job and I am much better with the spoken word than the written word... I think it will get the point across without too much embarrassment :o ... Bummer though...

Thanks for trying, and I will do my best to avoid getting in such a tight situation in the future

And yes about the "asking permission". I have not been refused at all when asking to put them up in stores/etc.

Regular Americans can't spell! :p

You just proved the point about it being grass roots! Very clever.....

There used to be some famous rich executive, I forget who, who took pride that all the letters from his company were typewritten, not printed, and had his typing pool ON PURPOSE put one erasure into each letter to show it was personally done.....

Any ad is better than no ad! I'm sure it will pique peoples' interest and they'll show up to see what it's all about.

OK, late last night the town of Pella was papered with hundreds of flyers for the screening. Luckily Maresco is in town and saw this early morning and immediately called the city parks dept to apologize. Needless to say they were not happy, but Michael was able to smooth it over. Whoever's doing this needs to stop, please. If you're on this forum and seeing this, while you're enthusiasm is appreciated it is now doing more harm than good. Please don't do this to anymore towns.

Michael is going into supermarkets and hanging fliers (with permission), buying ads in the local papers, talking to the local media, get listed in the community calendar, etc. That's how it's done.

Pella is a small town, and people talk in small towns. If we piss them off they won't come to the screening and we'll be projecting the film to a small amount the choir. We want new people there. So again, please stop.
