I was reading some posts over at DU and found this, that place is so full of stupid people that it's kind of sad... :(

In Sunday’s FDL Members’ Virtual Town Hall on third party election strategies with guests Josh Koster, Daniel Ellsberg and Michael Moore–the director four of the top ten box-office documentaries of all time–gave his suggestion for a third party candidate, actor Matt Damon:

I think that [Matt Damon] has been very courageous in not caring about who he offends by saying the things that need to be said here, and if you want to win, the Republicans have certainly shown the way — that when you run someone who is popular, you win. Sometimes even when you run an actor, you win. And I guess I only throw his name out there because I’d like us to start thinking that way...

I would not doubt he could win. Things like ideals and actual plans to pull our asses out of the fire, even acknowledging our asses are in a fire, is soooo 19th century.

Oh - come on - that guy can kick some serious ass! But prez is the wrong roll - lets send him into the middle east and have him kill all the whopping FIFTY AQ terrs in AF - with the reward money he'd get from letters of Macrke and reprisal - he could fund all the head start programs he wants! We could save TRILLIONS! - Yeah Matt Daemon! - Go kick some terrorist ass!

Well When Michael Moore (one of the greatest economic and social minds to have ever lived) mentions Matt Damon you have to stop and take notice.

I mean i wouldnt have though much of it before. But now that Michael moore has endorsed him, im sold. If michael moore later changes his endorsment to a big mac (ill vote for the big mac).

Ha! I kind of had something to do with that whole thing.
Look at my diary/thread here:
http://my.firedoglake.com/athena1/

And the spinoff diary/thread started by someone else:
http://my.firedoglake.com/themalcontent/2011/08/07/dear-michael-moore-put-up-or-shut-up/

Jane Hamsher said the discussion I started was what inspired her to invite Michael Moore to the webinar.

My thread/diary was titled "Michael Moore snaps out of denial!"

And the line that Moore recently wrote that caught my attention was this:

"We need to demand that the Democrats either get a spine and stop taking corporate money — or step aside."

I hope y'all can at least agree with Michael Moore's vision there.

Moore's part of the webinar was actually really interesting. He's hoping both the republicans and the democrats fracture so non-corporatist third and fourth parties can emerge.

Does anyone here actually oppose this idea as a meme for leftists?

"We need to demand that the Democrats either get a spine and stop taking corporate money — or step aside."

Do you think that's a good idea or a bad idea?

I recently asked at fdl, if "we" had to choose between Bush and RP, who's worse:
http://my.firedoglake.com/athena1/2011/07/24/hypothetical-scenario-bush-vs-ron-paul/

So I have to ask you, who's worse?
Corporatist Obama, or Damon?

I think the distinguished route to take would be to not classify people of a certain political knowledge as "stupid". You are not convincing anyone that everything they understand about something is wrong by telling them they are stupid. You must first figure out how they came to their understandings, then offer them contradictions to the things they understand to make them think, THEN offer them what you see as the truth.

I think Damon would be worse than Obama. Fascism instead of corporatism. I could see him murdering or imprisoning those who disagree with him.

Don't forget this about Obama:

I think Matt Damon would be a LOT better than Obama.

WOn't happen. The only thing the Dems have going for them is their ability to put aside their ideological differences and tow the party line. That's something the GOP has never done as well as the Dems.

ETA - you just called Ron Paul a racist in your FDL diary. WTF?

Matt Damon has even less experience at governing than Obama does. Are you for real?

Because they're largely herd animals as opposed to the right that's more a squabbling collection of cats.

You're probably right. For the most part I try to stay away from using insults because it doesn't do much in helping others change their mind. It's just that when I go over to DU and read some of the posts my blood pressure rises because of the ignorance of economics over there is so staggering. It really ticks me off when people talk about topics that they have no clue about. It's like talking with a 5 year old about quantum physics...

I feel better now though... :)

Living in Michigan, we’re living in a depression right now. There really couldn’t be a better time to organize, to run a viable candidate. And to really say the Democratic party has not served us well, so we’re going to Democrats 2.0. We’re bringing it into the 21st century, we’re going to be called the New Democrats, or the Roosevelts, or the whatever you come up with, are going to win.

Michael Moore thinks jobs come through politics.

"But, Jesus Christ.

I really don’t want to vote for Ron Paul."

"This is an honest question, btw. I really am a leftie. I don’t exactly like Ron Paul. I think he’s a racist who has extremely goofy ideas about economics."

Damon needs to stfu and read more about economics...also he needs to make Rounders 2...lol.

I mean, are we suprised some rich liberal idiot actor whose job is a pure product of the expendable income capitalism creates for the masses is against the very capitalism that pays him?

Anyone Moore agrees with tends to be a moron. I liked Damon until this...but I'd still like to see Rounders 2 made :)
