(I thought of this before Michael Moore, so don't flame too hard. I'd been sitting here trying to figure out why S&P made Fannie/Freddie look better than they were under Bush but they didn't seem to hesitate under Obama. Not that I'm crying over this, of course, but I do have to wonder if these credit rating agencies are really as much about 'financials' as they are 'politics'. I also wonder if Moody's is being bribed not to downgrade.)

According to this: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/08/why-s-p-s-ratings-are-substandard-and-porous/, S&P are always late to the party and will do what they can to not allow widespread panic. So if it becomes obvious that a country is basically junk status, they'll let it go for a while, then downgrade them one at a time. And yes, I know it's the New York Times but it's Nate Silver. The article goes on to say that there is a 52% chance the U.S. is downgraded again within two years.

I wouldn't doubt Moody isn't getting either bribed or threatened.
