Gov. Tim Pawlenty's supporters at the Ames Straw Poll will hear two popular bands while eating BBQ and ice cream inside his tent, the Pawlenty campaign announced today.

Governor Pawlenty's tent will feature the popular American Christian worship band SONICFLOOd and local favorites The Nadas. Famous Dave's BBQ will provide meals, and the campaign will offer Dairy Queen Blizzards.

I didn't think they were really popular any more. They were more in the early 2000s.

Derek Webb is about a thousand times better than Sonicflood too. Idk though... I can't picture him singing at a political event, even though he did publicly endorse Ron in 2008. Marc Scibilia is now signed to a major label... he's also a Christian musician and as you all know, a Ron supporter. Not that the musicians have to be Christians, but this is Iowa after all!

Here is Derek Webb's endorsement of Dr. Paul:

“My friends and I have this crazy & idealistic notion that while a vote is always an informed decision, ultimately one should vote their conscience.* This makes a vote for almost anyone feel like a compromise. Not so with Ron Paul.* Ron Paul adheres so honestly to the U.S. Constitution that I can imagine his first act as president giving himself a smaller office.* A lot of people don’t believe that Mr. Smith makes it to Washington anymore, and maybe they’re right. Maybe his name isn’t Mr. Smith, it’s Dr. Paul.”

Here is an interview Derek talking about being anti-war, tolerant toward gays, etc.

Marc Scibilia would be great with that song he wrote for Ron, but I thought he was limited in what he could do now, because of the record label deal.

Definitely. Even though I am a Christian and like Christian art, I don't know too much about the Christian music scene honestly though....because I think most Christian music just plain sucks.

I only got interested in Derek Webb because he is a Calvinist and an RP supporter, like me and many other Reformed people.

Christian music doesn't just plain suck. But there are stereotypes about it that I'm sure you and trey4sports are aware of. And Sonicflood fills that stereotype. I wouldn't listen to them... maybe a decade ago...

Derek Webb, on the other hand, is a very good musician.

Christian Rock bands, eh?

Somebody should setup a tent for Mitt Romney since he won't be there and have this Christian Metalcore band play:

Underoath, Life in Your Way, Maylene and The Sons of Disaster, For Today, etc. The hardcore genre has a lot of Christian artists.

There are tons of Christian indie (genre) artists too. Even the god of indie himself, Sufjan Stevens.

Further Seems Forever was a great Christian band. It was the band Chris Carrabba was in before he got all metro and did Dashboard Confessional:

The drummer for Your Memorial is pretty open about his support for Ron Paul.

I like The Chariot as well, they put on an amazing live show, sometimes with Norma Jean.

Calvinist huh? Oh well no one is perfect.;)

I am not into the heavy metal type stuff as much as I was before. I am more of a mello listener. I do like some of Webb's stuff just for that reason. I kinda jump around though and like different groups like Leeland, Red, and Decyfer Down.

I miss Five Iron Frenzy . I got to see them on their farewell tour.

I suggested Derek Webb/Caedmon's Call to the campaign a while back. He will be in Ames... A week or two after the straw poll.

Here's what we really need:

Neil Young & the International Harvesters > randy travis
Motorhead > any rock band mentioned in this thread
open bar > dairy queen

I wonder if we can somehow get the Mentors to crash mb's stage?

We can save Rush for Rand's inauguration in Jan 2017 or 2021
