Much as I like the book (i've bought two copies), I think we need to be realistic.

#1 on Amazon requires quite a few people to purchase the book. It's a big number. Definitely more than three.

Is there a more reachable goal we could set?

No, it's better to buy it from Amazon and donate to the campaign. Amazon won't track books sold through the campaign's store.

Where do you think the revenues from buying the book from the campaign store go? To the campaign, of course. I think it's better to give more money directly to the campaign and get the book than to give a smaller amount of money to the campaign (and that's assuming people also donate) and give the rest to Amazon for the book. Sure if you buy the book from the campaign store Amazon won't track it, but is it really worth it to give less money to the campaign just to have a shot at making the sales totals of the book go up on Amazon? Will it really make a difference? Will anyone, particularly the media, even take notice? Maybe if we really gave it a huge boost, but as someone else pointed out in this thread, that's a tall order to fill because of the huge number of people buying the book that would be required to give it such a boost and we need to be realistic about that.

We'll get more publicity for the campaign if we push it up the Amazon sales charts which will likely generate more money for the campaign than would us buying it directly from the campaign.

Even if we crack the top 100, that is press release worthy.

Featured placement on Amazon (eg the bestseller list) is better than press. The Amazon audience is enormous, and readers tend to be voters. Buy the book from Amazon. Buy a copy for your local library. Review the book on Amazon.

I'm a frequent book shopper. I browse the Amazon bestseller lists all the time.

You can donate to the campaign separately.

Yes.

Because the book is only $13.57 on Amazon, I can buy a few (as early Christmas gifts or whatever) to give out to my friends. This helps to get Paul's name out in at least two and probably three ways:

1. My friends get to know more about him.
2. Amazon readers will find out about him.
2. There's a very good chance that there will be more media attention given to him because of the sales.

I am not sure about # 1, but I know "Amazon Best Seller" is not very hard to accomplish as it's somewhat common "PR stunt." Many PR firms and even individual authors ( think the "make money" and real estate infomercial guys) have easily attained high Amazon ranks through pushing to their lists. I get emails from authors all the time, and there have been some articles written about this.

heck, even Michael Badnarik had a bestseller at one point.

The idea is all about getting on the top lists and getting attention and more sales from that.

It's been all over the news. There have been articles ( I just check google news) that listed the Bookscans and book advances for all presidential candidates. I think at the time RP's book wasn't being scanned anywhere ( not sure if it is now). Nielson claims it scans about 75% of all sales.

Outside of Hillary, Obama, Ghouliani, Edwards, all the sales and advances were small- 5 figures or less.

If you are looking for a new approach to keeping America safe and ending income tax, then you will really enjoy this book. Ron Paul's principles have never changed since he came into office in the 70's, read his speeches before congress yourself. I think our target should be "Top Ten Non-Fiction" This is plausible, but would require much more than a 5 star thread on RPF. This will take some mass emailing, as well as other coordinated efforts to get the word out. Landing this project on the front page of dailypaul or ronpaulforpresident2008 or voteronpaul could give us enough momentum to make it happen. I'd like to know how much volume we'd need to push this thing to the top ten?

I think getting the book on Amazon is well worth the Publicity. The sell out is wonderful sign. Keeping the 5-star reviews abundant will give the book more credit too. I think perhaps we should also start some effort in sending copies of this book to different memebers of congress to send a message. We would increase sales more and get a big message out. You can always make separate donations to the campaign directly.

Oh and I'm sure Ron wouldn't mind if we threw him on to the New York Times bestseller list.

This is what I wrote to my Meetups:

If you haven't read it yet, Ron Paul's new book A Foreign Policy of Freedom is awesome. It combines what RP has been saying for years about the ills of our interventionist foreign policy. Yesterday the book was at 344 on Amazon.com, now after one day it is at 107 and climbing. (It even pulled ahead of Newt's new book). It is also relatively cheap. And if you have already read it, don't worry Christmas is around the corner you could buy it for that certain family member(s) that is sitting on the fence, or just needs some good 'ol educationing by the good doctor.

Interesting thing I noticed,

http://www.amazon.com/gp/movers-and-shakers/books/ref=pd_ms_pg_2/002-3293602-5763243?ie=UTF8&pg=2

"End of America" is right above Dr. Paul's book. Naomi Wolf's book has just now recieved a HUGE surge in popularity. Could it be the Ron Paul effect? The sad thing is when you go to the product details page for Naomi Wolf's book, Dr. Paul's book is no where to be seen. we could use the momentum of her book via cross promotion to give us a boost.

The only thing I know to do is to write a review which illustrates how ONLY Ron Paul can prevent the End of America. Once this review is written we get everyone to go over and bump it to the top. Right now the TOP REVIEW has 144 'diggs'. We could easily surpass this. Once it's on the top it will be viewed by THOUSANDS of people who may have never heard of Dr. Paul but are READY for the message.

Naomi Wolf's recent wholehearted endorsement of Ron Paul's American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007, should give us the credibility we need to persuade liberals to check out Dr. Paul's book and his stances on the issues

One thing people here could do to help cross promote this book is to click on the tags in the middle of the page:

http://www.amazon.com/Foreign-Policy-Freedom-Commerce-Friendship/dp/0912453001/ref=pd_ms_b_31/104-0859541-3408758?ie=UTF8&s=books

It's a simple click... Just click the boxes, and it will help people find the book in their related searches. And add these tags:

Peace
war
politics
government
patriotism
constitution
founding fathers

It only takes a second to click on the boxes for the tags that they provide (click them all), and then add the other words into the little box they provide you.

(note; you might have to be logged into your amazon.com account to do this)

Much as I like the book (i've bought two copies), I think we need to be realistic.

#1 on Amazon requires quite a few people to purchase the book. It's a big number. Definitely more than three.

Is there a more reachable goal we could set?

are you kidding me with this pessism?....If all of in RP's army bought 3-5 copies we'd set records

I hear Amazon has them on back order... if that is the case, I can drive to Lake Jackson this weekend and bulk purchase them... have them listen on Amazon later.

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro

The Ron Paul Revolution is apparently translating to book sales today. Paul’s book, “A Foreign Policy of Freedom: Peace, Commerce, and Honest Friendship,” has moved to No. 22 on Amazon’s Movers and Shakers list. His book sales have jumped from No. 594 to No. 294 -- a 102% increase -- in the past 24 hours.

Paul did get some more national exposure Tuesday night as a guest on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Isn't that where Amazon needs to get them from? My guess is that they could contact Amazon and assure them of a quick delivery and Amazon would put the book back in stock.

Lucky me, i bought mine a month ago.

Unlucky me, i got bored with it halfway through. It's the same thing over and over again only with a different international crisis each time.

Book summary:
Ron Paul: Don't skrew with that other country, it'll suck later.
President + congress: Nuts to that; we'll skew with whatever we want to.

Once Amazon get more copies it will keep going up. The question is how long is that going to be. Seller are running out of their stock so this is going to become a problem. I really hope the publisher is aware of what is happening (how could they not?) and makes another printing of this timely, important book.

Paul's book and his stances on the issues

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/naomi-wolf/finally-action-ron-pau_b_69042.html

Purchasing another bestseller at the same time, especially if it's on a related topic will link the books, as Amazon offers up: "People who bought this book also bought this book"...

They need a stockpile of copies! Everytime we make progress they sell out faster than the 40% of the people here that want to ban speech! That's a good thing in the book case, but it's better if we get the ranking up and if people can buy the book and read Ron Paul's foreign policy of freedom! Great review from that guy. I can't wait for my book to get here. I see a neo-con got on there and gave it 1 star. He probably didn't even read the book. Be ready for attacks like this from everywhere as Congressman Paul becomes more and more popular.
