Not a bad interview with Stefan.

I disagree the liberty movement would take a huge step back if Ron Paul won. A President Ron Paul would end the wars. I would argue that would be what people remember the most about the liberty movement for the next 1000 years.

I disagree the liberty movement would take a huge step back if Ron Paul won. A President Ron Paul would end the wars. I would argue that would be what people remember the most about the liberty movement for the next 1000 years.

That's exactly what Stefan is talking about though. The government, by definition, must always have a monopoly on force no matter how limited it is - and therefore is diametrically opposed to the concept of liberty. If Ron gets in there and limits some of the evil, people will spend the next 1000 years convinced that the government isn't the problem, if only we get the right people in office - that the idea of liberty can prosper through political action.

That's been a plague for over 200 years. People have been trying to elect representatives that could shrink the, at one time, most consciously limited government in history. The result is the largest and most powerful government in history - a catastrophic failure of the liberty movement thus far. Stefan is basically trying to urge people not to be deceived into thinking liberty can be achieved politically. There may be blips on the graph, there always are, but the long term trend is up, up, and away!
