In addition, National Journal notes that the president appears to have helped GOP representatives gain thousands of followers.

"Thanks @BarackObama for pushing @RoyBlunt over 11,000 followers today!" tweeted Amber Marchand, Republican Sen. Roy Blunt’s communications director.

Haha! O's twitter "compromise" effort encouraged people to contact only Republican reps.

My God, I can't believe how hard Obama is pushing the people to call and write Congress. It's amazing. But it's only going to backfire.

Dude's got 9.3 million followers and people get excited that he loses .003% of them. Not like there's some national "emergency" or female conservative's bus tour going on with which to waste their time and resources.

We don't vote through ttwitter, though. I think it's a good sign that Obama is capable of losing followers (who'd have thought it possible?), but knight is right, this isn't that big of a deal.

I suspect many people follow him regardless of whether or not they agree with his policies, solely because he is the president and wields great power, and they want to know what he's planning.

I think he was doing it not to get something done, but to generate grass roots passion so they would follow him and get plugged into his campaign. He would have been hoping to ATTRACT followers for this 'marvelous scheme', not lose them.
