RALLY around the Philly Rally!

In case you HADN'T heard, the campaign decided to change the venue for the rally, leaving possibly THOUSANDS of people high and dry. Not only have 10's of thousands of flyers been distributed but people from all over the nation have made travel plans, booked hotel rooms, etc... to come to this event!

So, FIRST, we ALL need to call the campaign HQ and ask them to stick to the original venue! This is a MUST!

IF we fail and cannot get the campaign to see the error of their ways, then we need to plan on how to get all of these people (many of whom are travelling on a shoestring) to the new location (wherever that might be). I've spoken to people in Philly and they feel the campaign should pay for buses but that might not happen. So those of us who are planning on being there should help with rides (if possible). I already have a full car but I would gladly join a caravan (or a march - if the venue is close). The date is still on their site and thousands of people have already made their plans - so let's try to make this thing ROCK no matter what.

We need ideas and we need them now. The rally is only a week away and I don't want ANYONE canceling their plans because of a change of venue!

Very good question. Maybe a have a bus at the old venue to transport people to the new one? That shouldn't be too expensive if cost is the issue.

We don't know where the new venue is yet. The two possibilities I've heard are: University of Pennsylvania campus (a few miles away -- a quick subway ride from Independence Mall), and Valley Forge National Park -- about 25 miles from downtown.

If it's Valley Forge it's like 20 miles and not easily accessible through public transportation. If it's PA University it's an hour walk or a few minutes drive but not big enough to hold all the people planning to attend.

AFAIK there never was an "original venue" agreed to by the campaign. Just the one on your website which the campaign never agreed to.

Also it looks like the rally still will be held in Philly just not in the exact location YOU want.

Stop spreading Rumors and hurting the campaign. Its ok to discuss the possible locations and eventually recommend to the campaign what we want, but right now you seem to have a personal agenda because the campaign hasnt agreed to the venue you picked without concurence from them.

For your info - I was asked many weeks ago to relinquish the permit for the venue to the campaign (which I did). Now, tell me, why would they ask for the permit, if they weren't planning on using the venue. The FACT is, my friend, that they agreed to this venue (per my contacts) weeks ago, and the date and have now changed their mind.
YOU are not involved in anything as far as this goes and therefore have no idea what is going on.

There is nothing "self-richeous" about insisting that the enormous effort, planning, and grassroots support that STARTED this rally must not be considered less valuable than any sum of money necessary to keep the rally on track as planned. Changing it at this stage would have a much greater cost. There is NO excuse.

If in the future the campaign notifies a state coordinator or whomever about an unexpected change in venue:

1. If the coordinator feels the need to share the information, share it with key individuals only with a notice of: NOT FOR GENERAL DISTRIBUTION.

2. Once the new plans have been confirmed then distribute the information to the general public as you see fit.

Everyone is getting all upset (and rightly so if indeed no refund airline tickets and/or hotel reservations are involved) when in reality everything could turn out fine.

Can we all just take a deep breath … or a Xanax … and wait and see what happens?
