View Full Version : BEST flyer for telephone poles?

I'm planning a city-wide "telephone pole campaign" this weekend so I need to find the most effective grassroots flyer that I can post on telephone poles.

People will only have a moment to read what's on the flyer (possibly only 2 or 3 seconds if it's a green light), so it needs to be really short and sweet.

Also, it needs to look good in black-and-white since I'll be making B&W copies. I'll be using standard 8.5" x 11" paper.

Any ideas?? Thanks!

Why not instead be more effective by going door-to-door with slim-jims at the homes of likely Republican voters?

Well I think stickers work better since they will hold up longer and not deteriorate and become trash on the ground. With that said.
I think a good viral campaign might help us out, perhaps something that doesn't mention RP. Something that makes the person wonder and go home and search for it on the internet. Something that currently doesn't bring back any google results.
--Maybe this should be a different project or not. Something along the lines of Andre the Giant has a Posse....

I don't really "fancy" myself as the door-to-door type. Not that I don't think it's effective, but I'm just not that outgoing, I'll admit it. There are probably a lot of RP supporters just like me.

I agree about stickers, but I have a pretty limited budget and I think the 8.5x11 signs would be more noticeable (maybe). It doesn't hurt that the Texas drought is supposed to extend into September, so there's not much of a rain threat.

I love the Andre the Giant idea, if we could get something potentially-viral like that going I would be more apt to shell out some cashmoney and start a solid sticker campaign. I really just want to enforce the repetition idea for people in the area, and get them thinking so next time they hear "Ron Paul" on the news they actually pay attention to it.

You should ignore that troll and don't let him dampen your spirit. Many of us got started last go around doing fun stuff like you are suggesting, putting our creativity to work. Once you dive into that, you might end up wanting to go do door to door things. But do what you enjoy either way, if you aren't having fun then you are doing it wrong.

Gotcha, personally I'd keep Dr. Paul's name off the sign. Make it something catchy that will cause those moderately interested to look it up online when they get home or to the office. Maybe, "Do you hate fiat bankers?" then get a free wordpress blog or something like http://doyouhatefiatbankers.freeblogsitehere
Something along those lines...

It takes a bit of getting used to, but you should try it though. Have you signed up to phone from home?

I'm actually a Wordpress developer / SEO specialist, so with a decent graphic designer we could make it look pretty legit (EDIT: and get it to rank well on Google). I'm not Photoshop-stupid by any means, but I'm not the best either. Some of the grassroots stuff floating around on RPF looks really good. I'm 100% for that.

I signed up as a volunteer through the RP site (not directly for Iowa though), but nobody has contacted me yet. I really want to focus on something viral for now, something that will separate RP from other candidates.

I think the key to the viral thing, is to not mention Dr. Paul on the signs. I'd wait until you hook them and get them to put in some effort to look it up online.

So what are YOUR top issues? What makes you most passionate about getting Dr. Paul. That would be a good place to start.
For me the federal reserve is my #1 issue and why I started supporting dr. paul. But I admit I'm in a narrow group. My #2 would probably just be honesty and non-corruptness.

My #1 is definitely non-interventionism / ending occupancy in the Middle East. Honesty/the Fed/fiat currency are probably tied at #2 (although I don't know if mentioning fiat would be effective, not sure how many people actually recognize the term). If I could lock up a catchy domain that wasn't ridiculously long, I could just market the domain, which would be omit any mention of RP (until you got to the site).

Of course, I would want to go with whatever would result in the most hits to the site. Maybe this should be moved to Grassroots Central.

How about something using "...this aggression will not stand, man".? :)

Instead of moving the thread, I'd suggest starting a new one requesting people put up their own viral slogan suggestions for that particular issue.

Haha, I wish. If a Ron Paul - Lebowski hybrid campaign was feasible it would be ridiculously cool.

Also, it doesn't have to be that issue. I want to focus on whatever will return the highest percentage of people who see the sign/sticker. I think the military issue is a good one, but the currency issue is extremely hot-button right now. I'm torn.

My all republican in-laws are all big lebowski fans and they aren't potheads either. just saying.... if you are looking to make something viral it needs to be something people associate with. But not pushing the angle, just suggesting it as a possibility.

Well the question is also what type of people... Anyways, I'd suggest a thread asking for viral slogan suggestions, give them a list of issues to center around.
