File this one under suggestions for either the grassroots or the campaign.

A common thing I hear from folks is that they don't really know much about who Ron Paul is. You hear this, too, even if you don't think you do. That's because it usually sounds more like this:

"Ron Paul is a kook"
"Ron Paul is crazy"
"He's just a libertarian"
"He wouldn't protect our values"

Those things all sound like criticisms of the good doctor, and they are. But really, they are striking at something deeper: a lot of voters simply don't know who Ron Paul really is. If people knew more about who he was, they might say "well, I don't agree with him, but I like him." There's more of that than there was four years ago, but not as much as there ought to be. Even his detractors should understand that this is a good, honest man of principle.

Most of us know that Ron Paul is a committed family man, married for over five decades, a Christian who practices what he preaches (never speaks a harsh word, lives by the golden rule), an Air Force veteran, a small-practice country doctor who delivered over 4,000 babies, and for all his political actions, a man of integrity. But do a lot of folks who we need to reach know that?

Unfortunately, I do not see this brandished by the campaign or even our own grassroots as much as it could be. We need to show people who Ron Paul, the man, is, and why that matters for him becoming president.

Specifically, we need a video.

Allow me to give you a few examples of what this kind of thing would look like. I'm not saying ours should be exactly like these, but production value and softness of style, as well as softness of message, should not be terribly dissimilar.

Here is Tim Pawlenty's biographical-type video, focusing on faith:

Here is a much longer video than we would need, but for all the man's faults, you cannot deny that if you were a liberal in 2008, this video would stir you. It's Obama's 30 minute infomercial from 2008. It focuses on stories of Americans with challenges:

Here's one a little different, with John McCain being promoted for his military service:

Finally, let's not forget that Ron Paul has already done one of these. But it's old, outdated, and not good for 2011. Here it is:

We need the campaign, or the grassroots, to turn out a video similar to these. Not just using debate clips, but focusing on the life of the man, Ron Paul. Give people something to chew on before they call him a kook.

Just an idea.

I completely agree. A video like this should be put on the campaign website in the "About" too.
