If you believe in small government, a default is the very best thing that could happen to our nation. It would force politicians to make massive cuts in government spending immediately, and not in some pie in the sky future. Right now, our government is spending hundreds of billions of dollars on a foreign policy that makes the rest of the world hate us, a drug war that is making drug dealers rich, and foreign aid to countless countries. If we just cut out these three things, we could save hundreds of billions of dollars. However, it will not happen unless one of two things happen -- Ron Paul wins the Presidency or we default.

We can default without cutting social security benefits, medicare, or medicade. Those who say these would have to be cut are fear mongers.

Are they even using the term default correctly? As I understand it, you default on loans. You don't default on a budget shortfall, you just adjust your budget in keeping with your available funds. Yes, the fedgov has loans, and they have more than enough revenue to make their payments on them. What they don't have are enough funds to pay for the entire remaining budget, but they do have enough funds to pay for the essential stuff.

Bottom, line, if we don't raise the debt ceiling, we won't default. We merely cut the budget. And yes, not raising the debt ceiling is the absolutely correct thing to do.

Even if we did default, which would be obama and geithners fault I think it would be a good thing. Either way we shouldn't raise the debt ceiling.

Bring it on. The sooner the better.
