A genie gives you a choice between the following two wishes, which would you take?

1) A complete and immediate repeal of the PATRIOT ACT.

2) An additional 1% of GDP growth next year.

No Brainer.

Choice One.

Given my druthers I'd rather be poor and free than well off and living in the total surveillance matrix.

GDP is not the best indicator or personal well-being. If GDP goes up because the Wall Street Cartel made more profits next year, it did not really change your life. A better question, especially on this board, would be,

2) A complete and immediate repeal of the 16th Amendment.

Option 1 by a long shot. One percent isn't worth it in this case.

And GDP is deceptive. Inflation can throw it off.

The GDP is a Wallstreet well-being indicator - not a good choice.

1% of a 14 trillion dollar economy is still $140 billion. That amounts to about $456 for each American citizen.

The question really is; would you pay $450+ to repeal something has little to no effect on your life, or would you take the money?

Btw, in case I wasn't clear in the OP, the 1% is real GDP growth, produced by real economic factors, not accounting tricks.

Oh goody, A troll poll. As pointless as it is useless.

Voted Repeal the Patriot Act.
$450 would do little for me.

I would give away 5 x $456 right now if it meant the "patriot" act would be repealed.

Easy question. Next.

Troll Poll LoL!

No shit
$450 would do nothing, wouldn't fill me heating oil tank for one month.
$4500 would be nice, but wouldn't raise ne out of poverty level.
$450,000 is just fantasy. But i would not give up Liberty or integrity for it.

Fair enough, I absolutely cannot see how repealing the Patriot Act would have any effect on my day-to-day life. Can you give me an example of how it would affect yours?

well for one i liked the ability to use anonymous prepaid debit cards, can't get those anymore because of banking restrictions put in place because of the patriot act.
I also have a house in a foreign country, other banking regulations put in place gummed up the works and made it a pita to deal with.
None of the things i listed are illegal or hurtin anybody else, but the govt seems to think it needs to know everything. and yet they just walk suspected terrorists onto planes.

Yeah, I'd like to sleep comfortable at night secure in the knowledge that if I somehow attract the attention of the wrong Fed agency I can at least expect their agents to have to go through the effort of securing a warrant to search my residence. I also appreciate a government that recognizes my God-given right to free speech, to be secure in my person and property, and any number of other principles freedom loving people hold dear. But let me allow Judge Napolitano to provide further illumination:

If you had to, what kind of monetary value would you place on getting rid of those inconveniences?
