I've been pondering Ireland, simply for the irony factor.
So much of my family moved here after things got so bad there... it'd make me chuckle to go back when things get so bad here.

What makes south america so good? If things got really bad, I would first consider moving out west where things aren't very populated. Are they really going to send irs agents out to get my money?

all i know is i know a few americans that lived here . That now live there and they say it is the best:) I tend to trust fellow snowboarders and surfers over the federal government!!

though i am not ready to move since the government takes all my money, so i need ot save before i can flee if i have to!

When SHTF, being in South America is one of the STUPIDEST places you can go.

Unless you are HUGELY wealthy (enough to be near king status) - GOOD LUCK.

You'll be better off roughing it out in North American country land then in South American ghetto's and gang wars.

And that is not my 2016 plan...that is 2013*.

*unless, of course, Ron Paul wins

cant see the video, but i have been looking at leaving this country too.

question to the OP, where in south america would you be going? chilie, uruguay and possibly argentina are the 3 that i have looked into.
do you speak spanish?
what will you do for a job?
why south america?

i would love to have ~100 acres and have a bunch of smallish off grid homes for friends and family.....

India is pretty cool, especially the countryside of Gujarat, Kerala, or even Goa. Most people there live in peace and are pretty isolated from government influence.

True, South America would be the last place to go when SHTF

I'd move to China! Or New Zealand if I could get in.

As Chinese people's economic standards improve, their democratic movement is going to get stronger & there's going to be some struggle between the people & the government & you know when that happens

New Zealand or even Australia would be the best bet, they're culturally similar & aren't as densely populated & geographically isolated too.

Well, if you're dirt-poor then of course, the government will leave you alone  but otherwise you may've to watch out. Further, people are already going crazy over inflation & corruption & if economic conditions get worse, hindu-muslim gang-wars are likely to start again.

No plan B here...

That's why plan A needs to succeed!

You could easily buy land in Wyoming or Montana and not see another human in your life. Another poster said this before, but I'll iterate it, the government will not send IRS agents into some unknown patch of land in the middle of Appalachia or the Ozarks.

You people don't get it. It's not just about Ron Paul winning in 2012. Think in the long term. The revolution continues even without him. It's his ideas that matter, they will continue to matter after the elections. The revolution will suceed one day, be patient and be persistent.

Read Rothbard's "Left and Right: The Prospects for Liberty"

We must be optimistic and strategize in the long term. I am confident liberty will defeat tyranny in the end.

Ive thought of both sides of this. Its easy to flee. Its a lot more brave to stay and fight. What about the people that are left behind?
