Hi all,

I've been tasked with finding about 500 grommets for 3x5 sign making. I'm having trouble finding anything that's cost effective. It seems like most of them require a press and I'd rather not spend that money unless I absolutely have to. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!

If the signs are not expected to stay up very long, grommets might not be necessary.

I have used Tyvek and a soldering iron to make the holes. And Quick Ties to attach.

^ that works... or Hobby lobby sells grommets and a punch kit to install them.

I suppose they probably wont last more than a few days. Maybe I can get away with no grommets. With the amount we're looking at, it might be too pricey to go through Hobby Lobby. Thanks for the suggestions!

Test clear packing tape. Put a strip or two of clear tape over the place where the hole will go, on both sides of the sign, and then make the hole through the tape.

I've done business with this company and been very pleased with them for bulk grommets:

http://www.ahh.biz/hardware_catagories/grommet_sets.htm

I'd stay away from Home Depot and places like that - they charge allmost as much for a pack of 12 as a gross costs from the place I listed. Also, get a hand gromet press - by that I mean you use a hammer or mallet - preferably rubber or leather mallet rather than something much more expensive and bench mounted - that is unless you are doing something on the scale of what they did in AZ last time. Do make sure your grommet press is the same size as your grommets.

A box of 144 "0" or "00" nickle plated grommets costs $12.15, for brass they are $10.75

Home Depot is, however a good place to buy tyvek and spray paint.

The Home Depot link was for the press (yes the kit does include 12 grommets).

That's a good price. The place I listed is expensive for the grommet presses, but super cheap for bulk grommets.

Yes, saw that. When we were making banners I priced just grommets at Home Depot and they were very expensive and only available in small packages - I believe 12 per thing for something like $8.

That little press from Home Depot is exactly what I was looking for. I found 1000 1/2" grommets here: http://www.thelashop.com/1-2-4-brass-grommets-and-washers-1000-package.html

Just needed an inexpensive press. And free shipping too, thanks everyone!
