Welcome to the heart of the congressman's Texas district, where federal spending has quadrupled since 1999.

As a libertarian, Paul says he opposes federal disaster relief, but one of Paul's staffers told me that his office has shepherded hundreds of FEMA claims, ensured the reconstruction of the county's seawall, and won federal funding for an extensive beach nourishment project. Indeed, between 1999 and 2009 (the most recent year available), federal spending in Galveston County quadrupled to more than $4 billion. In 2009, the county received $14,707 per resident, topping average per capita federal spending in 46 of the 50 states. Paul earmarked some $60 million for projects in and around the city that year.

If only my congressman was that good. Hell if they are going to steal it from us at least we should get some of it back.

So other districts should get their projects while his constituents pay taxes for everyone else?

If everyone voted the way he did then this kind of thing wouldn't happen.

I have trouble understanding how a longtime supporter would not already know the answer to the question raised in this thread. Not only has it been discussed ad-nauseum here, but a link from MotherJones? Really?

Ron Paul votes against all the spending bills, but in the amendment stage tries to get as much back for his congressional district out of the total that is already set to be spent, as possible. It NEVER buys his vote for the underlying bill, because he NEVER votes for the underlying bill. Once a bill is passed as law of the land and money is committed, he does make sure the government spends it on the people who need it, and goes to bat for his constituents.

One commentator on a news program said 'what if you are President and they won't abolish the departments like you want, wont abolish these programs' and he said, well at least a better manager could run them more effectively and efficiently. He is both ideologically correct, AND is that better, more representative, manager.

There was also this little storm called hurricane Rita in '05 that pretty much wiped Galveston off the map right after Katrina devastated NO.

the left is attacking RP....thats a good sign.

silent treatment is what killed us in 2008. Left wing attacks will help RP in GOP primaries
