Post the most utterly stupid thing you have heard someone say about government, the economy, law enforcement, etc.

I'll get the ball rolling:

~An accountant with a degree in Economics actually told me this the other day.

Gays whom have a problem with that definition should take it up with their church or start a new religious organization that redefines it as something else.

The gay marriage movement could have done us all a favor and lobbied for the elimination of government laws related to marriage. But instead they insist on re-definition of marriage and for all of us to recognize it infringing on the religious beliefs of others and further ensuring government interfere in family life where they certainly do not belong.

Sure it is. A bunch of collectivized via bedroom practices (let's hope it stays there) members of a distinct subculture and its afficiandos, hidden and not, get collectivized privileges and that is wiping out collectivization. My compiler spit a console error on that turn of logic.

Marriage could be between cake and ice cream but who cares. I 100% agree that Marriage should have nothing to do with Government. You didn't have to type out RP's stance on it as if you were somehow teaching me something. If there are going to be Government defined marriages, then it should include everybody. If it doesn't then the government is just running paperwork for the churches which is even worse than them getting involved in the first place. The Bold statement I agree with 100%. The one after seems to be praying all stays the same between Church and State, if the government calls it marriage then its there fault everyone wants to use the term... "please check one: Married____Single____Divorced_____Civil Union______" just continues to make them a group that will continue to go after world saving liberals for free money. Oh, Sorry, I should have said Fiat Money!

"Sure it is. A bunch of collectivized via bedroom practices (let's hope it stays there) members of a distinct subculture and its afficiandos, hidden and not, get collectivized privileges and that is wiping out collectivization..."

I agree, it is super *****. But groups only seem to exist at all these days because a stupid subsidy or privilege is formed for a group or groups then denied to another. Only solution is getting rid of all the privileges all together I guess...Denying groups anything makes them stronger. Giving all "privileges" to the individual only makes them all go away.

I mean, honestly Medicare isnt government oppression. I think I need to stop this conversation now, before it gets too stupid. People are greedy. The government is made up of people, but it, in and of itself isn't a sentient being that can have attributes like greed. You want to live and die by your own hard work, but you admit that you would use government handouts if you were in dire straights. I mean... I don't want to call you names, but what else could I say than you are a hypocrite? I'll stop short. I'll say that I misunderstand your muddy argument, and I won't call you a hypocrite. I'm going to stop this argument now, and not respond. I'm sure you'll get a last word in, but I'll let it go. You have fun living and dying by your own hard work while you're young and strong. I hope you never have to use any of those big government handouts that you hate, but if you do, I hope you'll realize that people put them there for just such an occasion, and have some GD respect for the liberals and socialists who are feeding you and giving you basic survival on that day"

Marriage has been a government institution for as long as its been a religious one. There is no definitive proof that i have ever seen that would dictate otherwise.

I think you're drinking the Kool-Aid. Show me where marriage was initially a religious institution that was usurped by the government. I've heard so many people make this argument as if its fact. Marriage has been a government institution for as long as its been a religious one. There is no definitive proof that i have ever seen that would dictate otherwise.

Polygamy was a religious institution.

Girl I know: I don't like Reagan because he is responsible for sending all of the textile jobs overseas.

Me: How is a president responsible for sending the textile jobs overseas?

Girl I know: I don't know. I saw a documentary about it. John F. Kennedy started it though.

Me: So you don't like JFK then?

Girl I know: No.

Nice try, but that has nothing to do with what i'm talking about... The poster said: Marriage is a religious institution which government has no business dictating rules and regulations related to it. The poster is stating that marriage was first a religious institution before governments got involved in them.

a few of my all time greatest facepalm moments:

" But I can't get a job, they'd cut out my food stamps"
- girl I know bragging about telling this to her probation officer

"But the Iraq war was justified because Saddam had WMD's, which means that he posed a direct danger to the United States"
- guy I work with who claims to be a Libertarian

"I could never vote for Ron Paul, he's for cutting foreign aid to Israel"
- Neo Con guy I work with

"the TEA party is the greatest threat to American freedom since Vietnam"
- Democrat I work with

"well, maybe we shouldn't have went to Iraq, but since we're there we might as well finish what we started"
- same "libertarian" from earlier, after I argued with him for a little bit.

" If we hadn't dropped the bomb on Japan, we'd probably still be fighting there"
- again, same "libertarian" from earlier.

" well, Bush wasn't the best president, but at least he's not Obama"
- same "Libertarian"

" I wouldn't vote for anybody but Hillary, because then women would run the show"
- same "food stamp girl" from earlier.

"well, I don't like what the government either, but what are ou gonna do? they are the government after all"
- having an argument about constitutional abuses of power"

" well regardless of what the constitution says, the government says..."
- same guy, same argument

" well that may be what Germany was like in the 1930's, but that could never happen here, we have the constitution"
- yup, same guy, same argument

guy: " No one needs that many guns, you don't need to protect yourself, that's what the cops are for"
me: " so would YOU rob me?"
guy: no way, you've got too many guns
- guy I was arguing with over the second amendment

guy: No one but cops should be allowed to carry guns
me: why shouldn't I carry a gun
guy: because if something happens, you just need to call the cops
me: so if someone was to rob you right here, right now, how quickly would the cops be here?
- same anti second amendment guy

"If you tell a cop that they can't search your car, that gives them probable cause to search your car"
