“Nevada is a key constituency with important and growing influence on the National political environment, and Dr. Paul plans to win the state in 2012,” said Jesse Benton, Ron Paul 2012 campaign chairman.

Does Nevada have a Caucus? Last I checked, Romney and Huntsman were running away in the polls with about 75% combined, most of that to Romney.

Does Nevada have a Caucus?

Yes indeed, and technically Dr. Paul won Nevada last go around -- all the delegates should have been his.

Oh yeah ok I remember that now. Something about the local GOP shutting down the Caucus or something right?

The actual convention, they finally unlocked the ballot box this year when dr. paul was out there and presented it to him. In it contained the proof that he had won NV.

Turning off the lights and fleeing when they didn't have the votes to recess it, actually....

But the perfect scenario is if Huntsman and Romney split their vote and Ron can take the state.

Nevada isn't a huge deal, and the media pays very very little attention to the state so a win isn't that big of a deal in my mind. Although if we have failed to win one of the first 3 states, then a win in NV would at least give us some ammo to say we have won a state.

I'm hoping that Nevada isn't our first win though :)

If I remember correctly, if Ron wins even one state, O'reilly owes Stossel $10k. Heh.

I know, not really relevant.

I can't wait to see this on TV here. :)

Winning Nevada would be huge.

There are only 50 states and we need as many as we can get, particularly the early ones since then the primaries move south which isn't Ron's best area.

I don't know why you would want to diminish a win we have a real shot at getting as if it weren't important.

Because the media wont even mention it

So we should agree it is unimportant and move on?

I think we should emphasize that it is important. And people care if you win whether the media spends as much time on it or not.

The Washoe County Republican Party presented U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, with a little gift Friday morning: The hidden “ballot box” from the Nevada Republican state convention in 2008.

Rather than send Paul delegates to the national convention three years ago, Nevada Republican convention chairman Bob Beers called the state convention to an abrupt end in April 2008. The lights were dimmed, everybody went home, and the 600 ballots stayed locked up in a cashier’s cage at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino until Republican National Committeewoman Heidi Smith and several others were given the key 18 months later.

So the Republicans had a little fun at a breakfast meeting Friday with Paul, who formed an exploratory committee this week to run for president again.

“I’ve got the ballot box,” said Kim Bacchus, coming out from a back room Friday to present the ballots to Paul as a gag. more at link

Come on now it's an early state, and winning it would just add to the perception that just maybe Ron can win! Not to mention momentum and morale is everything.. Needless to say I'm very impressed with the campaign!

My point is this... Iowa, NH, and S.C. will be reported heavily in the media and analyzed. If Ron wins one of those states then his campaign will be taken seriously, and no longer fringe. If the first state he wins is Nevada it wont hardly get any airtime and even then the media will downplay it and it will not eliminate the fringe label.

A win in Nevada would be colossal.

We need to win early events in Wyoming and West Virginia and Louisiana and Maine as well, and should have a real shot at all of them.

I think it is time to stop worrying about 'the fringe label' and just point out how ludicrous it is if someone pretends to it. We emphasize their ridiculous meme by giving it attention.

I think this is a smart move by the campaign. It is thinking ahead - I don't think that this suggests they aren't concentrating on the first three states.
But at the moment every campaign is concentrating on these states heavily and, probably, ignoring the fertile soil in NV to grow their campaign.
Lets say that there was a different primary winner in each of the first 3 states, Paul being one of them, that would make NV the "tie breaker" as to who the front runner is before the surge of primaries after that.

At the moment I hope they're mainly spending money on that commercial in IA and we win the straw poll.
After the straw poll they get a huge bump in funding that can go towards playing the commercial much more in NH and NV while they keep it playing in IA till the caucus.

In the meantime I think what is equally critical is us using the campaign phone banks like CRAZY. This is a strategy to win and we're well on our way.
The commercial is awesome - we should also be spreading it for free all over the internet.

like it or not, the whole "I like him but he can't win" meme keeps a lot of folks from supporting us.

This should be the first major campaign ad from anyone running in Nevada. Romney and Huntsman have the polling because of the name recognition and proximity to Utah. We may find that with a little campaigning, their support folds rather quickly - particularly in the more libertarian parts of the electorate in Nevada. Dr. P's only real competition will probably be Romney (I'd be surprised if Huntsman lasts until Nevada), so it's not impossible that we win. And more delegates is more delegates.

Furtthermore, we have a LOT of boots on the ground there, plus I think this a strategic move. Outside of Romney, the others have less cash on hand and are having to spend a lot of money to raise it. He's making them chase him. I suspect he thinks some of these folks will be gone before NV.

If we can beat Romney in New Hampshire and Nevada we'll be on our way.
