Jackson Lee: Congress complicating debt ceiling because Obama is black
By Josiah Ryan - 07/15/11 03:02 PM ET

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Friday strongly suggested that members of Congress are making it difficult for President Obama to raise the debt ceiling because of his race.

"I do not understand what I think is the maligning and maliciousness [toward] this president,” said Jackson Lee, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. “Why is he different? And in my community, that is the question that we raise. In the minority community that is question that is being raised. Why is this president being treated so disrespectfully? Why has the debt limit been raised 60 times? Why did the leader of the Senate continually talk about his job is to bring the president down to make sure he is unelected?”

Earlier in her speech, Jackson Lee said Obama has been targeted unlike any other president.

"I am particularly sensitive to the fact that only this president — only this one, only this one — has received the kind of attacks and disagreement and inability to work, only this one," said Jackson Lee from the House floor.

"Read between the lines," she continued. "What is different about this president that should put him in a position that he should not receive the same kind of respectful treatment of when it is necessary to raise the debt limit in order to pay our bills, something required by both statute and the 14th amendment?"

Jackson Lee concluded by saying that she hoped someone would step up and say that what appears obvious to her is not in fact true.

"I hope someone will say that what it appears to be is not in fact accurate," said Lee. "But historically it seems to be nothing more."

Bush wasn't treated disrespectfully? Mind you, spending has ALWAYS been a DEm thing, and when Bush got push back on this it was generally from the right.

How about we take Obama's advice from 2006:

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."

Pretty sure that Republicans went after Clinton just as hard. The woman's nuts--she even looks like a crazy, retired former librarian and current cat lady.

Ah yes, but once they use up all the cards, they just print new decks... Haven't you been paying attention? :)

Are these people aware that they are using race to shut down any honest debate or do they really think all opponents are secret members of the KKK? Sometimes I can't tell the difference.

Just heard Bill Maher echoing this on Piers Morgan, also mentioned Rand Paul when he was talking about Republicans being racists. Something like " I respect the old school racists <don't remember the names> unlike Rand Paul who said he'd march with MLK."

Also was asked which Republican he would be ok with and he said Mitt Romney.

So just an FYI to those doing the Blue Republican thing.

Add this to list of crazy shit Sheila Jackson has said in the past. Back in 2003 she was pissed because hurricanes and tropical storms are given names that are more identified with Caucasians and all races weren't represented.

LOL I just love the "logic" people like Maher espouse. Rand Paul respects Bill Maher's right to do with his property what he pleases; Mitt Romney advocates stealing from and enslaving poor people, and disproportionately black people. Bill Maher thinks that Rand is worse than Mitt.

Conclusion: Bill Maher hates black people. Stick that in yer pipe and smoke it, Bill... ya jackass.

Americans are idiots. Most incumbents get reelected for reasons unrelated to how the incumbent has governed in the past. "Uhh. That's a familiar name. I'm voting for that one."

How about Obama?

http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/38520

What IS different about this president is that he voted against raising the debt-ceiling in 2006 when George W. Bush was president. At that time, The One said the following:

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Americans deserve better.” …….. Senator Barack Obama”

So while it is impossible to agree with Sheila Lee Jackson and her outlandish illogic on this issue, here is a proposed compromise:

Let’s name a hurricane, earthquake, or other natural disaster after Obama and call it even!

What say ye, SJL?

I find it racist to suggest that people can't name their children what they wish. I also can't help but believe that if they named a storm something like 'Tamika' or whatever she would consider a more likely African-American name and it destroyed Key West, she'd be saying they named it that to make Floridians hate her personally.

I do believe this woman will keep playing race cards even when there are none left. Even if she has to invent race cards of her own with a magic marker. I also believe she wants people to follow her bad advice so she can accuse them of racism when they do.

Actually, Rep Lee, I'm the most upset with Obama's white half's racist policy of dropping bombs on African Muslims, oh and also that part where Obama's white half keeps spending like a drunken sailor and plans to continue doing so until there is no middle class for her "community" to rise to. But I digress.

I suspect that most names like Demetrius, Shaquanda, and Keesha didn't really emerge until after the 60's, and they didn't get wide exposure until the 90's. Then again, we don't see hurricanes named Xoxitl, Bronislav, and Yoshi.

This lady is just an attention whore!
