He's only backtracking now because he knows he made a mistake by even hinting that he's considering further increase in the supply of money. I don't believe for a second that he's had a change of thought all of a sudden. He's just going to keep his intentions on the down low until the time finally comes.

The Fed does not like to surprise the markets so if he does decide to do further interventions, he will let people know ahead of time.
