This appeared a while ago, AFAIK he's more of a hardline "tea partier" that supports wars and the police state.

I don't know if he sounds quite like "one of us," necessarily, since he never criticizes militarism or empire, and the main examples of big-government programs he cites are those targeted at "healthcare, climate change, pollution," which are all left liberal Democrat causes; going purely by the content of this song, he could conceivably be a more conventional Republican or neoconservative, rather than a Ron Paul-style libertarian/constitutionalist. That said, none of the content in the song itself actually is neoconservative in and of itself, and it is both spot on and legitimately funny.
