If August comes without any deal the debt ceiling, the Treasury will state it doesn't have the revenue to pay our obligations, we have 3 basic choices

1) Default on all our debt

The Treasury believes this is the only option, as they can not pick and choose which programs to fund, nor do they have the people necessary to dole out selective payments

Even Fox News has said this will cause a world-wide depression

2) Default on some of our debt

President Obama could take control of the entire federal revenue, and spend it on the programs he fancies, such as keeping Medicaid, Welfare Programs and Debt Interest payments, but ending Defense Contractors and most of the military

This would be a huge grab of executive power, and Obama could basically do whatever he wants

3) Default on none of our debt

Since this decision would come to the President when the Treasury asks him what they should do, he could decline a large executive power grab or a total default, and then use his presidential power to follow the constitution, which states:

Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned

The Courts have ruled that this provisions applies to all federal debt and obligations

So he would inform the Treasury that the United States will not default on its debts and that they need to pay everything in the last budget passed by the Congress

A Congressman has said if he picks 3, he'll be impeached, would you support impeachment, and convict?

Yes he should be impeached, the Constitution does not say that we must borrow to pay.

Also the constitution doesn't say how quickly we have to pay a debt, just that it remains valid. Default and invalidity are not the same thing.

So let me see.... if we make a law against pornography, it will magically disappear. If that would only work, I could also help NASA by making a law against gravity in certain areas and thus it would disappear and make space flight a simple thing.

We could also make a law against so many things we don't want happening and thus everything would be peachy.

Too bad laws don't do anything at all and only imprison those who are caught breaking said laws. Laws are the product of people who believe they can control things by making them. They don't work.... I hope some day those making these silly laws will finally understand they only have the power to imprison people.

Have any idea how many prisons they could fill if they made a law against gravity in some spot, and arrest everyone who sticks to the ground there?

The only true impeachable offense is contempt towards the people's Civil Purpose. Violating the long established traditions is no longer a sufficient reason as our nation wasn't established on legal precedence, but established by the utilization of a natural law.

Well, the point was, they can't make a law that repeals natural laws. The idea of them doing so, is repulsive.

Raising the debt ceiling without Congress is NOT Constitutional. Congress has the power of the purse under the Constitution, a principle going back to the Magna Carta.

However, I agree he has done a lot of other unconstitutional things as well, Libya being a big one.

So, they'll just make it illegal to obey the law of gravity. They've been trying to figure out how to make walking drunk illegal for a long time. This should do it.

Perhaps some of the physicists or mathematicians in here can help me. As I have it figured, when a person falls thirty feet he or she is moving twice as fast as a person falling twenty. Here is my reasoning:

Take a ball and toss it up at the point of thirty feet the same exact height in which another person is dropping a ball at exactly the same time. The point in which the two balls pass each other should be somewhere about two thirds up the distance of thirty at around twenty feet. Correct? So, figure the ball being tossed up will be traveling only half of its speed one third of the way up.
This is the exact inverse of the ball falling or a person falling. So, the person falling twenty feet will be falling about half the speed of a person falling thirty.
Why am I inquiring?
Well, at a Ranger baseball game, a fan fell twenty feet and died while a year ago a fan fell thirty feet and survived. The fan last year was going twice as fast (pretty close to it anyway).
Can anyone in here please estimate the speed of a person falling thirty feet to twenty feet?
