Apparently, and I'm guessing that once it crawls out of beta it is supposed to be easier to push content out of the local app. On first blush the 'circles' methodology seems inherently more secure for specific group coordination. So far (mind you I've only played with the mobile version so far) it looks like the bastard child of FB and Twitter

Yes and ironically they claim they are going to put a greater privacy focus on it than facebook. coming from google I find this amusing.

I do too, but the settings do seem to allow for better privacy options. You have to do it by custom circles where in FB you would use private groups

Don't get me wrong, I like it. It demonstrates to me that google thinks there is demand in the market for a social networking platform that focuses on privacy. hopefully this will push facebook in that direction. In reality, google HAD to do this, facebook has been microsofts lynchpin in their plans for taking the internet back from google and so far it has been looking like it was going to be a success.

Agree, competition almost always makes everyone better. As for me, I have no choice (given my career path of late) but to go all-in on social media, so this will be another tool in the toolbox, and perhaps a good method of coordinating RP12 efforts and GB12 efforts

LMAO, thanks Dannno, though unlike Beck I actually spell Glen correctly. ;)

The fascination with Beck and the similarity in names actually helps me with the sheepleteas, who do vote and are rather numerous, so I tend to not discourage the confusion. :D

Some people like social networking. It is particularly a useful tool for political activism, and even more a useful tool for electoral politics. I think we are all more aware of the risks than your average bear, but many of us find it very useful for spreading the message.

I fidn them super useful, I've made quite a diverse group of friends, and met all sorts of people, and done all sorts of cool stuff from networking on them.

If not for Ron Paul and electoral politics, I would barely use social networking for the sole purpose of keeping in touch with a very scattered family. As it is, it is one of the most effective tools on the intarwebz for electoral politics. It scares the pants off the establishment GOP caucus that I have more FB and Twitter mojo than the house speaker. :D

Adding by email will be my only real option so long as my foot is swollen like a balloon lol

The way I see it, social networking is more about being a tool to aid in political activism and electoral politics than anything else. I anticipate it's heavy use in the next 18 months for coordinating Ron Paul 2012 activities. Us web peple will have a serious leg up on the competition on that front, and web 2.0 stuff has gotten a lot better for coordinating activity since 2008.

You can add with any email, but some people need a name too
and I like google+ better than facebook because it can limit who you are talking to, and who can talk to you, without rejecting friend requests, which has always been kind of the reason I don't like facebook.

Of course, posting your email online is asking to be spam-bombed

I see this google+ thing as being more useful than any of the other sites, because you are able to very clearly and cleanly separate groups and send massive amounts of free information to either group at any time. Unlike facebook where you make a status update and everyone sees it (I know they've tweaked their categorization system but it would take too long to go and organize everything after the fact). In Google+ you can easily drop and drag people into speficic categories, and any time you make a "status" update (stream) you can choose which circle to share that with. No more spamming 80% of your friends with things they're not interested in.
