Congressman Ron Paul was the first Presidential candidate to sign the pledge and in fact both attended and spoke at the press conference announcing the pledge. Interestingly though Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has NOT signed the pledge.

Every president has had a "10 year plan" to balance the budget. Hell, NIXON had a plan 35 years ago to make us "energy independent". None of these long-term plans EVER happen. We need a balanced budget THIS YEAR and it can be done simply by returning to FY 2003 levels.

10-year plans are nothing more than promises. EVERY year a NEW budget is passed, and any agreed-upon "plans" are out the window.

All that matters is THIS year.

Yep, its about like the Soviet's 5 yr plans for increasing production. Every 5 years they would just roll out another plan that was shure to work unlike the last. Ron needs to keep preaching this to anyone who will listen. It falls right into our fast food mentality. "The only budget year that matters is this year!"
