Is racial crime worse now or is Drudge just promoting it?

For the last while there seems to have been many links to stories of groups of young African Americans causing havoc. Anything significant?

Well, when the economy crashes, crime goes up. Drudge is not at fault for posting news stories regardless of who the criminals are. It should send a warning to people that the young people are going nuts, and I believe that it is important.

I think there's a kernal of truth to increased crime and racial tension brought on by the economy, but I think it's mostly Drudge sensationalizing. I live in Chicago near where all of the havoc took place, and I still feel quite safe.

I have been hearing that violent crime is down as well. I think Drudge is sensationalizing; I think it is part of an effort to distract people from the economy, the wars, and their loss of freedom. If middle class whites are just worried about young blacks venting their frustrations out on them, then they are more likely to support things like the TSA molesting people, police violence, schools brainwashing their children, etc...

Most people, when they're concerned for their safety, are willing to support a police state.

Imagine if these flash mobs were in the news when Bush was president! Cheney and Yoo would've been ripping kid's fingernails off for bringing cigarettes to school.

Any entity that sees people as belonging to difference groups and thus entitled to different rights will in due time incite anger which often manifests as violence. Social justice practice through the aggression of government leads to a society that is neither social nor just. If society is to progress towards peace, civility, and justice it will never happen through govt intervention. Unfortunately, these stories will probably continue to increase even if violent crime overall is decreasing. I think much of the dcrease has to do with the fact that the US incarceration rate is through the roof compared to the rest of the world. As govt tries to return to fiscal responsibility, there will be resistance by those most psychologically dependent on govt particularly urban areas. Jmo.

I believe Drudge isn't at fault either, but he is sensationalizing.

He does this frequently.

I've been frequenting Drudge's site for years. I guess he does it to "expose" Black or minority racism.

He has to appeal to different types of conservatives, which is why I believe he links to InfoWars and sometimes gives positive press about Paul.

He recently linked an article exposing a Rabbi's questionable comment, which is odd considering his fervent pro-Israel coverage.

Right.

I think that should be the takeaway from the problems that South Africa has had since apartheid ended. The ANC -- because of their socialist and nationalists roots -- the ANC, when they took power, only replaced the color of the discriminatory government. If we fail to see that the answer is to abolish all racial preferences and designations (for governmental purposes), then we will have similar problems in the future -- especially when the country becomes more heterogeneous.

Reporting increases and decreases much more than the actual crimes. It is a distraction and division technique.

I seriously doubt that the Casey Anthony thing was the only similar crime since 2008, but it has been reported to death. At the same time, there is a violent crime problem in the African American community that is out of proportion with the Black share of the population.

My roomie and I always love reading the comments after Drudge links an Article with a Headline like "Urban Melee," "Flash Mobs," or my personal favorite "Youths."

I think there is definitely an increase in the larger scale/larger group/coordinated crimes. We have had a couple here in charlotte, and its a rather new phenomenon. (not totally unheard of, just a bit more worrisome due to internet organizing and the limited ability to catch the culprits)

Unemployment among blacks between 18-29 is astronomical (close to 45% based on recent reports) in relation to the rest of the population. Like they say, idle hands are the devil's playground and add the ever-present element of broken homes & it's far from surprising.
