Im trying to make some DVDs for my family/friends without interweb access.

There are lots of methods for downloading the FLV files from YouTube. Just google "download youtube" and find the method you like.

thanks for the tips, Im downloading the vids I want in .flv format from youtube. Can the .flv be converted into something I can use (avi, mpg, etc.)

Here's a few free web services that converts flv's on-the-fly and can then be downloaded in avi (mpg, etc), good for converting now and then:

For more frequent conversions and longer videos, you can get a computer software. Just search, here's google's, just poke around:
