Had to move my truck yesterday. Radio came on and there's Glenn Beck going on about how it is now illegal to have prayers or any other "religious" talk at funerals in Houston (of all places) without permission of a FEDERAL judge.

I had things to do and could not listen to his yakking beyond a minute or two.

What the hell is this? Anyone?

Sounds like Beck needs to refill his meds. I can't imagine that this is in any way true.

No there is something that went around but I think it is about military funerals and if they requested a christian and or religious ceramony.

don't quote me but I thought it was about person specific wishes and if they said "no" to the praying then it isn't allowed...

someone should pop in and clarify though.

I will say this though, I myself am not FOR religion and do not want it at my funeral. I do believe that if my so called "wishes" were not held up before I died that I GUARANTEE my mom and all the damn bible thumpers around me would have this big ol church funeral with praying and pastors and all this stuff that I 100% disagree with.

I hope people can keep their right to how they have their funeral and if it is filled with prayers, religion and so on OR as you wanted it.

I am looking for a keg of newcastle, some herb going around and some live bands. A PARTY because if I were there I would be hanging out just the same and NOT in a damn prayer circle. Now to those who bible thump, more power to you and happy you too can have the rights and abilities to pray as you see fit and have funerals just the same. Assuming you don't try and make it so ALL funerals MUST HAVE prayers, a pastor and all that bible b.s. that many including myself have decided isn't factual even though many find it believable.

Wow. They can't stop everyone from praying unless everyone agrees to it. If they say "You can't say God, or Krishna", nothing could stop me from chanting His holy name.

What are they going to do, beat and taze you for praising the holy name of Lord Krishna (jaya!)? That wouldn't stop me, not even to death.

Are we going to see instances like what happened to Haridasa Thakura on a mass scale?

He loudly chanted the holy names of the Lord, and the government ordered him to be beat to death because they did not want him to speak the Lord's name. He was beat in 22 market towns, but the Lord protected him from any harm.

Feeling threatened by Haridasa Thakura's conversion to Vaisnavism, the Muslim ruler arrested him. To enlighten the Kazi Haridasa said, "All living entities in creation are inspired by the Lord in the heart to act in different ways. People of different religions praise the Lord's holy names and qualities according to the view of their scriptures. The Supreme Lord accepts everyone's mood. If anyone shows malice towards another's religion he actually shows malice to the Lord Himself, who is worshiped by that religion. Since God is one, that person becomes envious of the same Supreme Lord that he himself is worshiping."

The governor grasped these words, but the Kazi (the local ruler) insisted that Haridasa make a choice: "Either give up your belief or die."

Haridasa replied firmly, "If my body is hacked to pieces and even if I am killed—still I will keep chanting Hare Krishna."

The infuriated Kazi ordered Haridasa Thakura publicly whipped to death. He was brutally beaten, dragged through twenty-two markets, and thrown in the Ganges. Absorbed in remembering Lord Hari, he miraculously survived by God's grace. The Kazi, the brahmanas, and his rivals ran to Haridasa. They gave Haridasa Thakura an enthusiastic welcome and begged forgiveness for their offenses. He forgave them and blessed them with devotion.

Ah so... More of Mr. Beck's distortions at play, it appears.

He is such a tool.

No fan of Beck,,,but what distortions?
There are several news stories covering it. Three major Veterans Organizations have filed suit. A few legislators are calling for the directors firing.
It is viral on the web (blogs/forums too numerous to post).

It is a violation of the first amendment. And though only reportedly at the Houston National Cemetery, the second largest Veterans cemetery in the country, one wonders where this came from. So far the Director, Arleen Ocasio, is not speaking, though according to many she is responsible for the rule.
Congressman Ted Poe as called for her termination.

History is filled with the accounts of abuse, torture and killing of those who do not follow the "proper" faith.

Don't think for one second it couldn't happen here.

Oh, I know. If government would do it to Haridas Thakura just for his pure devotion to the Lord, it could happen to anyone.

Wouldn't stop me from praying out loud or chanting the holy names of the Lord. That is one thing worth doing to the end. Even if it's a painful end.

Ahimsa. Peaceful non-violence. No amount of violence can stop me from peacefully chanting the names of the Lord.
