See the center of the top blue bar and select "Chat Room". Once in be sure to undock the display by selecting the icon to the left of the "?".

It's a party.... :)

Here was the solution in IE:

Alt-Tools-Options, 'Programs' tab, 'Manage add-ons' button, then make sure anything that says "Java" is "enabled", particularly the one called "Sun Java Console", which was disabled for me.

Now I'm in - hope this helps others!

I have Java (the latest) installed and cannot open the chat. Tried both IE & FF. No dice.

I'd been in before. Then it randomly stopped working.

Why not set it up as a java based irc chat? That way those of us who can't access it via java could get on through a standalone IRC client..

Plus an IRC server would allow for better collaboration. Provate messaging, private chat rooms where groups could go to talk about whatever project or issue, logging, etc.

It has private chat rooms - it also has controlled access via the forum login which you can't have with IRC. It's all run on a separate server / predone package that would be hard to hack. Otherwise, I would agree the prefect to be able to use an IRC. :)
