This may be the sharpest crowd I've ever heard on a late night show. Also, the jokes are quiet topical.

Ron Paul supporters pushing the envelope!

Dr. Paul's a pimp (in a good way). What can I say? :D

It's not a bad thing. A lot of people like Bill Clinton for little more than that reason (that he's a "pimp," though a sleazy one).

Ron Paul is the ultimate bad ass.

No, it's major network TV, they control it pretty closely. You might be able to find a live feed on an east coast TV station? According to comments at Daily Paul, it's not likely to be posted at YouTube because of copyright problems, BUT you can watch it tomorrow on NBC's site:
http://www.nbc.com/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/video/episodes.shtml

Since I don't have TV, that's where I'll be looking.

BS. If i want to buy something, I give money to someone and they give me something else. If I am forced to also pay someone else for the privledge of partaking in this trade it is quite clearly NOT voluntary.

That was an awesome interview. Leno asked leading questions that following along the lines of typical dissent regarding Paul's policy which were softballs in this format. Dr. Paul was fantastic... relaxed, sharp, funny. And, the shout out from the Sex Pistols and Paul shaking their hand at the end was priceless.

Tax isn't the best word but conceptually a voluntary tax is one you send the government on your own volition. They can tell us what defense budget they want and we can send them money for it, or not. If we don't want them to take our persons by force for defense (the draft), why do we want them to take our money by force for it? If we won't step up for defense it's our problem, they don't magically get authority to make us do it.

PS Obviously the constitutional position allows the states to figure this out for themselves.

Right, that's not a tax it's a donation. There is no such thing as a voluntary tax. If it's voluntary it's not a tax.

"Hey Mr. Paul!!!" (I guess he forgot he's a Dr)

After that, he turned his butt toward Ron and started rubbing and/or wiggling it. Did anyone else catch that? I wasn't sure if he was trying to taunt him, or what that was exactly.

But then they shook hands afterwards. Ron Paul and Johnny Rotten shaking hands -- truth is stranger than fiction sometimes.

Um what gives you the right to extract a levy on my private transactions with other people? What if I don't pay?

Because the govt. is responsible for upholding contracts and that what a purchase is, a contract. If you and the other seller have a disagreement, the govt. is the one who has to sort it out.

If you don't buy (your choice), you don't pay. If you buy, the seller adds that to the price and pays the tax on your behalf. It is voluntary. If you don't want to pay the tax you do not half to, by not purchasing.

The purpose of govt. is to uphold personal liberty. (Including property rights)

Your forcing other people to handle disputes outside of the govt, is violating their rights. That is the purpose of govt. whether you like it or not. The govt. can't do this for free. In this case the govt. is not forcing you to do anything or pay anything. If you want to purchase something (i.e. enter into a contract) then a built in cost of that contract is the payment for govt. to handle the jurisdiction in the event that there is a dispute. If you don't want to pay it, don't enter into the contract.

But it doesn't really matter because that was a great interview. And Rp shaking Rotten's hand was priceless.

I initially got the impression that Ron was medicated somewhat, because he was chilled out, I mean waaayychilled out, and the message rang so clear and Leno the big lovable hampster practically pitched Ron's message for him. I just think everything was in sync here and Ron was relaxed and not in any pain (at 72 pain is something to consider, even if you are healthy as can be)

Ron is a medical doctor and obviously took care of himself for this one. On Leno, no less, the most relaxed and easily accessible interview I've ever seen with him.
