Twenty percent of Tea Party supporters would like to see Perry as the nominee, according to a McClatchy-Marist poll released Wednesday. Perry displaces former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) as the top Tea Party candidate in Marist’s April poll; Huckabee’s since withdrawn from the race.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) is the second choice of the Tea Party, at 17 percent, followed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) at 16 percent and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) at 12 percent.

The poll suggests that Perry might be well-positioned to seize the mantle of the Tea Party should he choose to enter the race. Bachmann’s made a play for those voters during her announcement this week, and could enjoy increased support after heavy media coverage this week.

That poll is just nonsense. NO tea partiers are clamoring for Perry. I suspect the error is in their definition of 'tea partier'. But Freedomworks is pushing Perry, as it was trying to interest Ryan first, a pro TARP pro no child left behind kind of guy, and also not a tea partier.

What a joke. And Ron Paul is at 6% among their so-called Tea Partiers. But he's at 5% overall in this poll, which is suspiciously low.

People are jumping for the 'new thing'. Ron is seen as a known quantity even though they only know fake spin, half of them. Wait it out and see where we are by the Ames straw poll.

And yes, I'm ignoring Romney and Perry for a reason, that tea partiers want them is obviously bs. In fact, they shot themselves in the foot with that because ALL tea partiers know Romney is a nonstarter, and now will realize their pumping of Perry is likely nonsense, as well. Those who know Perry, of course, already knew that. (Twitter is pretty sarcastic when it comes to Perry)

On a brighter note, plenty of Ron Paul mentions, in the comments section.
