The New Hampshire Coalition for Common Sense Marijuana Policy today released its "Anti-Prohibitionist Report Card" rating Republican candidates for president. The report card, published at SendTheRightMessage.com, grades candidates on their drug policy positions.

A Democratic version of the report card is scheduled to be released in two to three weeks.

The report card notes that less than 200,000 Americans were incarcerated in 1970 when Richard Nixon declared his now infamous "War on Drugs." With 2.3 million incarcerated in the U.S. today, the report card seeks to identify and praise candidates who understand that mass incarceration is not an acceptable solution to the very real problems of drug addiction and drug abuse.

Of the eight Republican candidates evaluated, six received F's. Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo earned a C, and Texas Congressman Ron Paul earned an A+.

The report card contains candidate analysis and links to YouTube videos of candidate interactions collected by NH Common Sense activists.

"Aside from Paul and Tancredo, the Republican candidates would like voters to believe that Constitutional limits on the power of government do not apply to drug policy," observed Matt Simon, executive director of NH Common Sense. "If they can find a 'drug war exception' in the Constitution, I challenge them to show it to voters."
