Well he believes that our liberties come from "our creator", not the government. Whether you believe in god, or nature, or whatever, where do you want your liberties to come from? If the government grants them to you they can take them away.... Ron Paul wouldn't make any kind of federal legislation pushing anything religious on you -- in fact, he wants to get the government out of marriage and leave that up to churches. What he is trying to do is force the government to recognize that people have "god-given liberties that can not be taken away".See More

This is good here. My personal experience is that the Socratic method tends to work well on those that have a propaganda-induced, negative impression of Dr. Paul. Continue to show an interest in his needs/views, ask these sorts of questions, and let him arrive at the conclusion that Dr. Paul is the right candidate for him on his own.

When you ask the questions, you are not on the attack and you are a supportive friend or acquaintance. Since he is answering, he has to justify his positions and you have to justify nothing (you're merely asking questions). Just choose your questions wisely and if he's already predisposed to liberty, he can't help but start looking at Ron Paul seriously.

You want to be supportive, not combative. Good luck with this interaction and future ones as well.
