RonPaul2012 website blocked in China !!! Why?

Been in China for 2 weeks and was shocked to see that ronpaul2012.com is blocked here (along with youtube, facebook, and others). This is pretty strange since that web site has only been in existence for a short time.

I am able to get around the censors by using a VPN to patriot internet but of course that's a slower connection due to the additional traffic routing.

I like to visit China, but I HATE their censorship...

Just checked "mittromney2012.com" and it works fine from China but it does say that the domain was just registered...

I realized my mistake. His website is just "mittromney.com" and it is not blocked in China. Any other websites I can check??

ronpaul.com is not blocked. Strange that they block his other site. Campaignforliberty is also not blocked...

When you try to access a blocked website from china, you will have a long delay while waiting for the page to load, and when it fails to load you get the following message:

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Any of you techno types know how they are doing this???

Usually they block at the DNS level, so if you know the IP for a website you should be able to access it. Be back with some numbers.

Looks like Ron is on a shared server, no unique IP for his site.
This site will get the IP of a website:
http://tejji.com/ip/url-to-ip-address.aspx?domain=ronpaul2012.com
if you want to try some of the others by IP.

Also it seems like they are blocking forums/social sites in general so it probably has nothing to do with the content and regular websites are allowed.

maybe there should be a thread on how to get around censorship, as what is happening now in China is coming to your ISP courtesy of the MPAA and their stooges in congress.

When I tried that ip, I got the same error - connection reset.

If you were a government, and you wanted to be more powerful, and you had the capability to suppress the possibility of people from finding out about Ron Paul, even if you were in a different country, because his ideas are internationally transferrable, you too, would probably block ronpaul2012.com ;)

Right you are. I tried it again, and now it's working. Maybe it was just a temporary internet problem. It is very annoying though that so many sites here are blocked. Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, BBC, and who knows how many others...

Thanks, actually it's very safe here. As long as you don't challenge the fiction government, they really leave you alone. They are not anywhere near as gung-ho about enforcing the "law" here as in the US...

Yes, I jumped to conclusions. What must have been an internet bandwidth problem looked to me to be the work of the dasterly censors... I've addressed this above. There are many sites blocked in China, but ronpaul2012 is not one of them...
