Did you mean to put up a poll for this? If so, what's the purpose of your poll -- just curious about which browsers people use? Firefox here.

What is the big deal about FireFox?

Got sick of flipping back and forth from FF and IE due to some FF compatibility problems. After IE7 released, I use it primarily.

What is the big deal about FireFox?
1 - It's NOT Microsoft
2 - It's free
3 - It's open source
4 - It's smaller, more secure, less prone to bugs, and updated more often
5 - In my personal opinion, it's just a better all around browser

FF is a memory hog, and I always had problems with the updates. Opera is more secure and faster.

Used to use Firefox, but now that im on Vista, its no longer a security issue to use IE and IE seems to load pages a little quicker than Firefox.

So there you have it.

What is the big deal about FireFox?

It's a nice browser. A large number of improvements that end up in IE browsers are first pioneered in Firefox, Opera, etc. But if you really want to find out, download it and try it yourself: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox

Another big deal is, it's (arguably) the best browser available for Linux. Certainly IE is not available for Linux.

I am little surprised by the fact that Firefox won by such a majority. Don't Firefox users only account for 15% or so of browsing traffic on the Web generally?

Generally speaking, Firefox users are more technically astute than average, which tends to play into the notion that Ron Paul is the "Internet candidate". I wonder if a bigger principle is at work, though, because this poll begs another question: How many Ron Paul supporters are Linux users?

I would have expected a somewhat higher number than average, since Ron Paul supporters can generally be characterized as individualistic and freedom-loving. But I didn't believe that Ron Paul supporters were really that much more computer-savvy than most people. These numbers for Firefox users are making me change my mind.

So, Linux users (I'm one), own up. :)

*lol* Well, since Microsoft loves it's own way of "Wiretapping" it's
"citizens", Firefox might be the more constitutional choice. But besides
of that - Firefox has thousands of cool extensions and features Microsoft
can't offer since they have to pay their programmers ...

Firefox.
Add-ons. There are countless little program add-ons, and there are some useful ones out there.

Smart people seek out the best. Others are content to suffer with what they are given. :)

I personally love firefox, mainly due to the extensions and customizability of it.

Whatever browser anyone uses, I would encourage you to use anything besides internet explorer. IE's hold on browser marketshare has hindered the advancement of the web by huge amounts.

Well, apparently Opera users don't even know how to user their browsers. :D

Firefox, FTW!!! :p

Firefox for the extensions. A couple times a year I'll use IE and I am always amazed by the number of ads on every site. How annoying.

I use FireFox mostly.
Opera some times, but I haven't fallen in love with it.
Internet exploder6 when I have to ( sites that are not W3C compliant).

Micro$oft tell you that?

Funny, I have IE6 running on Linux.

Still like FireFox best.

Firefox for:

- Free
- Fast enough
- secure
- open source
- add-ons such as ad block (I almost never see any), video downloads, flashblock, FTP, etc, etc, etc.

I only fire up IE for MS specific sites (microsoft.com, some sharepoint, etc).

Firefox here too, IE is terribly slow compared to Firefox, at least for me on three different computers I've owned and tried both on. I just don't have the patience for IE.

Safari I was told was supposed to be even faster than FF in all the tests, but again it was loading slower than FF for me as well. Plus I love how it only takes a few seconds to put on custom skins, etc.

I've used all four browsers and a couple of others, but I still prefer Firefox. It's open-source and I can customize it however I please. The extensions are a life-saver! Some of the ones I use daily are All-In-One Gestures (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12), All-in-One Sidebar (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1027), Adblock Plus (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865), Tab Mix Plus (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122), UnPlug (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2254), Greasemonkey (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748), IE View Lite (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1429), Image Zoom (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/139), NoScript (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722), Cooliris Previews (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2207), Fasterfox (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1269), Scrapbook (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/427), Web Developer (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2194), Flashblock (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433), SearchWith (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2194) ... I could go on and on. :p So, yes, definitely Firefox.

How so? Crossover plugin? VMPlayer?

Either way, IE6 totally sucks, so I can't blame you for sticking w/ Firefox.

Safari is the only one in that list that passes the Acid 2 test.

I use Firefox btw. I just like the interface a lot better than IE. It's just lighter and easier to use.

Linux user here, running Ubuntu 7.10 : )

Been using Firefox for years now, no other browser has extensions like FF has. Opera is a nice browser as well. IE7 is 100x better than IE6 (c'mon, give credit where credit is due!)

Number one reason I tell people to not use IE is due to it not supporting standards well or at all. If you have ever really worked on creating web sites, you will know my pain : )
