Recently I read an article: http://www.thefoldblog.com/2011/06/that-pesky-individual-mandate.html detailing how some republicans have supported the idea of a health insurance mandate before they were against obamacare. These were the only videos I could find to back up the article's claim:
Chuck Grassley

Orrin Hatch

And of course there's Jon Huntsman: http://www.vxec.com/2011/05/potential-gop-presidential-candidate-favored-health-care-mandate-as-governor/
and Tim Pawlenty:

Newt still does. That sly dog said he is not for a federal mandate just to satisify his critics. But he would attached federal dollars to the states implementing the individual mandate. The states rather than be punished or unable to implement Obamacare without the federal dollars would have to implement the mandate.
This is how that no good SOB and his buddies in both parties have been able over the years to force the states to implement federal legislation.

Well this is the same man who supports the patriot act, so I'm not suprised to see him supporting big government.
