View Full Version : Taking Moneybombs to the Next Level: Gamification

Here's what I'm imagining:
We hold a traditional grassroots moneybomb. Before the moneybomb, we collect individuals to pledge $x to a "donation matching pool" ("DMP"). The DMP is operated by an individual, is not handling money, and is in no way connected to the official campaign.

When the moneybomb is happening, donors post their donation code [how to prevent fraud?]. When a donation is posted, a random roll is done by the DMP administrator. Let's say there's a 2% chance the donation is matched, and .01% chance the donation is matched 5x. For the Hell of it, let's say there's also a .005% chance of winning a rifle or something if people wish to donate to the DMP but are either maxed out to RP or do not have USD to spare [would these be considered soft-money donations even if they aren't going directly to the campaign?].

These gimmicky skinner box techniques have proven very effective in education, keeping MMORPG players around, and improving employee productivity - so why not apply these principles to create a more fun, interesting - and most importantly, productive moneybomb?

Some other thoughts:
*We could add depth to this game by having people start up collectives of individuals ("clans"), and then offer the operator of that clan a large type of reward if his members donate the most, while rewarding the members of the winning clan with smaller gifts (everyone gets a free RP t-shirt or something). By offering big prizes to the operators, we not only offer them tangible incentive to spread the message about the moneybomb, but also increase the likelihood that there will be competing clans instead of just one giant one. This could also obviously be tiered, with the best prizes going to the #1 clan, lesser prizes to 2nd & 3rd.

*The game could be hosted on a website which offers such stats as clan membership #s and total amount pledged to the moneybomb as well as up-to-date information on the prizes available.

*In lieu of physical goods, perhaps J-Lo would be willing to give free premium forum memberships to lower-tier winners
