Yesterday after viewing Ron Paul's 2nd TV advertisement, I noticed that I'm starting to think of him as being "President".

It occurred to me that it is time for some Ron Paul supporters to start putting together bands to play "Hail to the Chief" at his rallys. That would surely drive the media crazy!

Definitely bad form. :(

Dr. Paul has far more respect for the office than that.

[Edit: Brent, welcome to the forum and thanks for your support for Dr. Paul. Brainstorming is great, and a wonderful purpose of this forum. No offense, but it's also a good way of weaning out the good ideas from the others.]

What is "bad form" about members of the public forming bands and playing "Hail to the Chief".

Dr. Paul has served honorably in office for 10 terms and has adhered to the Constitution the entire time. Dr. Paul has earned the right to sit in the oval office, and RP supporters have every right to treat him as their future President.

It is reserved for the person who holds the OFFICE of POTUS.

Who has reserved "Hail to the Chief" to President Bush? Has President Bush yet passed an executive order banning the public from creating bands and playing the tune?

Dude, like Bradley said, it's bad form. How about letting it drop?

You have to understand the importance of ritual in our (and most) societies to understand this. If you don't grasp the concept of ritual you won't understand why it is a bad idea to play Hail to the Chief to someone who isn't.

Classical liberals should understand Hayek’s view of freedom, and its connection to tradition and the coordinating role of institutions, to avoid the problems that confront other conceptions of freedom.

A tradition is a practice, custom, or story that is memorized and passed down from generation to generation, originally without the need for a writing system. Tools to aid this process include poetic devices such as rhyme and alliteration. The stories thus preserved are also referred to as tradition, or as part of an oral tradition.
Tradition is a knowledge system (a means of transferring knowledge). Economists Friedrich Hayek and Thomas Sowell explain that tradition is an economically efficient way to transfer and obtain knowledge of all kinds. Sowell, for example, notes that decision-making consumes time (a valuable resource), and cultural traditions offer a rich, low-cost, consensually authenticated way to economize on the resources required to make decisions independently.[1]

Lets not put the cart before the horse.

We need to campaign to get higher in the polls. Once we move higher in the polls more people will be encouraged to support Ron Paul.

No. I chose my words carefully. It is reserved for the person who temporarily OCCUPIES the OFFICE--it's for POTUS, not GWB or any other human--the officeholder.

They have an entire office dedicated to protocol in the White House--that's how important tradition is. You just don't mess around with that kind of stuff even if GWB doesn't know protocol from a proctologist. You would offend the senses of anyone who knows better.

It would most definitely be a bad idea.

It would embarrass Dr. Paul, and if you think that the media has ripped into supporters now, just wait...

You can always make videos with "Hail to the Chief," like this one:

Ron Paul License Plate

It's a good song!

Personally, I wouldn't be offended, but it seems like a lot of people would be so it's best not to do that.

Guys, playing Hail to the Chief anywhere near Ron Paul is about like playing Oh Holy Night in a bordello.

I agree with your point, but would have chosen a more appropriate analogy. hehe
