What, we don't have to fight for invitations now? I'm feeling a little weird about that.... not exactly being accustomed to getting invited to all the debates.

Yeah, but Newty is in this one, which means he'll get twice as much speaking time.

Number of questions per candidate should be interesting. There should be rules that it's equal.

Ron Paul needs to body slam them on the stage with the issues. They are all biggov republicans and ron paul needs to slam romney on health care and bachmann, palin on foreign policy and biggovgop policies!! If Ron Paul calls them out on the issues! We will have a grand slam in NH!!!

I view newt and romney and the rest of the gop est and neo-cons as just snacks for Ron Paul to eat on the stage!! Ron Paul should crush them on the issues and spit them out one by one!!

I don't support GJ, but he should be in this debate. Bachmann hasn't even announced an exploratory committee yet...

Santorum and Johnson both polling at 2%. If Santorum is in, Johnson should be in.

bachmann shouldnt be there. yet we need to worry about equal question and answer time. as in last election, paul only got 6 to 7 minutes in some of the later ones. he can still be ignored.

7 candidates. :( I predict another stressful night, wondering when Dr. Paul will get more air time. Anyone know how long this one will run? I hope it's a full 2 hours. And it had better be a debate this time, not a panel interview session.

Ron needs to own this thing. Last debate everyone discredited everything saying "no major players were involved". Now the "major players" are in and Ron needs to crush them to become the front runner.

The question needs to be asked - Where will they put Paul? The far left podium or the far right podium?

Still waiting for Anderson Cooper to fulfill his promise to give Dr. Paul time to respond to a question posed to other candidates. That promise was made during the last CNN debate in 2008, and never fulfilled.

CNN is just as lousy as FOX when it comes to debates. I think only PBS made any effort last time to give equal time to the candidates.
The CNN/YouTube debate in Florida, the one introduced by Charlie Crist, was really bad. They skipped Ron Paul repeatedly, and I could tell that he was containing his disgust for it all when he announed in his closing statement: "There is a *revolution* 'out there' and I for one, am glad to be a part of it". He did not even stick around for questions, just walked off to a rally held after the debate.

At least we do not have to deal with FU Frank in this debate, but I'd imagine Ragin' Cajun or whoever they bring up afterwards will be just as bad.

I wish Gary was there if for no other reason than to eliminate them from treating Ron Paul like a fringe candidate. In this debate they can throw terms at him like "You're the only one..." and "No one else on stage agrees.."

Gary's presence doesn't help Ron IMHO. I think it's good he's not there to be honest.

If you did a reality show, would it be like Donald Trump's?
If you were an apple, would you be a Republican apple or a Libertarian apple?
If people decide you're not an impressive enough figurehead, would you get plastic surgery and a new hairdo?

I doubt Ron would say it, but a response to this could be: "Governor Johnson would probably agree, but you didn't invite him to the debate."

Great response -- and yes, I think Gary helps a ton. Ideally he'd be there for all the debates, then drop out and endorse Ron right before Iowa.
Being the most convincing/reasonable person saying something is far better than being the only person saying something.
Actually, I wonder if we could help the Johnson folks try to get this changed, or protest it at least.

unfortunately, the format of all the debates seems to make anything like this to be unlikely. the tendency to ask Ron fewer questions than the others also hurts the chances. and, remember, he has to answer the question, not just bash at the other candidates. he could do this fairly well if he were skillful but I haven't seen him wield that skill that well yet.

For fucks sake, Gary Johnson is a former two term Governor. He has more right to be on that stage than many of the other candidates. They're excluding him because of his libertarian views. I was hoping to come here and see people a bit more pissed off about this.
I support Ron Paul over Governor Johnson, but Johnson being on stage helps legitimize Paul's views. They look silly saying Paul isn't a Republican when there is another candidate expressing the same point of view on stage.
If anything, this is bad for us in the long run and shouldn't be tolerated.

With which he can respond, "no one else on stage is RIGHT!"

Meh, Gary Johnson doesn't do anything for me - and I think the rules for determining how to get into the debate are pretty fair (at least 2% in any 2 major polls, or something like that).
Did anyone put together stats from the first debate showing total talk time and # questions asked for each candidate? Watching it I remember feeling okay with how much time RP got (just wished he got better questions).

We need to demand some old school debates. This moderated b.s. pisses me off. The moderator's only job should be to ensure that each candidate gets equal time. Ron would destroy everyone if he was able to cross examine them.

Hulk Hogan could draw more than 2% in the polls, does that mean he has more right to be on stage than a two time Governor?
It's way too early to be eliminating people based on polling, and the whole idea of the media getting to decide who belongs is garbage. They need to turn this thing back over to the league of woman voters or some kind of independent organization.

Looks like CNN isn't opening tickets up to the public for this debate. Expect plenty of applause for statist viewpoints.

If you did a reality show, would it be like Donald Trump's?
Yeah. That was the dumbest debate question ever. If Ron is asked something like that he should say "Since that's a ridiculous question I'm going to ignore it and talk about the federal reserve". Or he could answer "My reality show would be call 'dream cops' where private investigators would go after the corrupt corporatists collaborated with big government to rob the American people blind through the housing bubble and then turned around and got a bailout."
