Classical liberalism is a philosophy committed to the ideal of limited government, liberty of individuals including freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and free markets.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_liberalism)

I believe it is the best way to describe our movement and liberty. I think that definition is what we strive.

Why are we not Classical Liberal?
Why is Liberty basic in Classical Liberalism?
ect..??

When someone asks me what I am, I usually respond "classical liberal."

;)

and then I label myself in a way that will best get them to be open to my opinions. Whether that be constitutional conservative, classical liberal, libertarian, or whatever.

You two are speaking in different contexts. I usually respond with "my occupation".

Sure, but what about the enlightenment and the acidmics of liberty. It is important for people to understand that liberty leads to fruit.

I like more the term "real liberal". It pisses progressives more. :D

Your right when my one friend that supports Obama says he is a liberal. I correct him and say your a "social liberal." The exact opposite of what a liberal means. Pisses hime off beyond belief .

Socialists stole the word liberal from us and we stole libertarian from them. Its kind of funny actually.

I'm Estonian. Here, the word libertarian doesn't exist. There is no need for it. We just call ourselves liberals. I don't think we need to call ourselves classical liberals, we are simply liberals. There is only one real kind of liberal.

I like classical liberalism a lot. It is a far better means to liberty than conservatism. (Mises considered himself a liberal in the classical sense, btw) It is unfortunate that the word "liberal" has been so tainted. :( On other political forums, I've had to make entire threads explaining what liberalism really is because it is so misused in contemporary discourse.

Isn't this the case in most of Europe?

I know most socialists call themselves Labour or w/e.
